Van Gogh is Karndean’s best-known residential wood-effect collection and one of the most specified LVT ranges in the UK. The original Van Gogh is a glue-down product — a thin, flexible LVT that is bonded directly to a fully prepared subfloor using Karndean’s approved adhesives. This produces a completely flat, fully bonded finish with minimal floor build-up, which is particularly useful in renovation projects where doorway thresholds and existing fittings have to be respected.
Van Gogh’s reputation is built on the quality of its surface textures and the breadth of its plank and herringbone designs. Finishes range from pale limed and bleached oaks through to warmer mid-tones and deeper smoked walnuts, all with detailed embossing that closely follows the grain of each design. The range is a default recommendation for customers who want a proper Karndean wood-effect floor in a traditional glue-down format.
Where Can Van Gogh Be Used?
With a 0.55mm wear layer and glue-down construction, Van Gogh is suitable for all residential rooms — kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, hallways, living rooms, bedrooms and open-plan spaces. Glue-down LVT performs well in wet areas when installed with the correct adhesives and perimeter detailing, and the flat, fully bonded finish is ideal for large open-plan layouts where visual continuity matters.
Because Van Gogh is a glue-down product, subfloor preparation is more demanding than for rigid core click ranges. The substrate must be fully level, smooth, clean and dry before installation. For renovation projects where full subfloor preparation is impractical, Karndean Van Gogh Rigid Core is the click-format equivalent and adds a pre-attached acoustic underlay.
Van Gogh Design Range, Plank and Herringbone
Van Gogh covers a wide plank design palette — pale limed and bleached oaks, warmer mid-tone oaks and walnuts, and darker smoked and aged finishes — alongside a dedicated herringbone format that has become one of the most popular Karndean finishes of recent years. The herringbone boards are sized and engineered specifically for the pattern, giving a clean, consistent layout when installed by an experienced fitter.
Surface detailing on Van Gogh is a step up from Knight Tile: embossing is more pronounced, colour depth is richer and bevelled edges (where present) reinforce the sense of individual planks rather than a continuous sheet. The glue-down format also allows for tighter plank joins and a flatter overall finish than any click system can achieve.
Van Gogh Warranty and Installation
Karndean Van Gogh is supplied with a residential warranty when installed by a Karndean Approved Retailer using the correct adhesives, underlays and methods. Subfloor preparation is critical — the substrate must be smooth, fully level, clean and dry before installation. Any irregularity or residual moisture will affect the long-term performance and appearance of a glue-down LVT product, particularly in herringbone layouts where joint alignment is visually unforgiving.
The range is fully compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating systems, subject to a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. Always follow Karndean’s specific guidance for installing Van Gogh over underfloor heating, including warm-up procedures and adhesive selection.
