What is Karndean Palio Essenza?

Palio Essenza is part of Karndean’s Palio collection — a family of ranges developed with design direction drawn from Italy. The Essenza line specifically is a glue-down LVT, bonded directly to a fully prepared subfloor using Karndean’s approved adhesives. That gives it the completely flat, fully bonded finish that only glue-down LVT can produce: a stable, long-lived floor that sits flush with skirtings and thresholds and integrates cleanly with adjoining materials.

What separates Palio Essenza from the rest of the Karndean glue-down range is the design language. The wood and stone effects in the collection are drawn from Italian inspiration — sunbleached oaks, warm travertines, aged plank finishes — and the range is a good fit for interiors that lean towards a softer, more relaxed Mediterranean feel rather than the classically British tones of the Van Gogh and Knight Tile ranges. With a 0.3mm wear layer, Palio Essenza sits at the entry level of the Karndean glue-down range, making it a strong choice for whole-home projects where design direction matters and budget needs to be managed carefully.

Where Can Palio Essenza Be Used?

Palio Essenza is suitable for all residential rooms — kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, hallways, living rooms and bedrooms. Glue-down LVT performs well in wet areas when installed with the correct adhesives and perimeter detailing, and the flat, fully bonded finish is well suited to whole-home projects where visual continuity across several rooms matters.

With a 0.3mm wear layer, Palio Essenza is best matched to normal residential traffic. For very high-traffic environments or statement premium projects, Karndean Art Select (0.7mm wear layer) or Karndean Van Gogh (0.55mm wear layer) would be more appropriate.

Palio Essenza Design Range

The Palio Essenza design palette covers wood and stone effects with a Mediterranean character. Wood designs range from pale, bleached plank finishes through to richer, warmer oaks and aged timber looks — the sort of finishes you might see in a restored Italian farmhouse or a modern coastal villa. Stone effects complement the wood range and extend its use into bathrooms, kitchens and entrance halls where a stone look is preferred.

Surface textures on Palio Essenza follow the grain or pattern of each design for a realistic underfoot impression. The Italian naming convention — drawing on real places and landscapes — makes the range easy to navigate if you are working with a designer or trying to coordinate several materials together. Because Palio Essenza is glue-down, the finished floor sits completely flush and works well alongside other fully bonded finishes such as tile or stone.

Palio Essenza Warranty and Installation

Karndean Palio Essenza is supplied with a residential warranty when installed by a Karndean Approved Retailer using the correct adhesives, underlays and methods. Subfloor preparation is critical — the substrate must be smooth, fully level, clean and dry before installation. Any irregularity or residual moisture will affect the long-term performance and appearance of a glue-down LVT product, so this stage should never be rushed.

The range is fully compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating systems, subject to a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. Always follow Karndean’s specific installation guidance for Palio Essenza, particularly around warm-up procedures and adhesive selection when fitting over underfloor heating.

How Palio Essenza Compares to the Rest of the Range

• Palio Essenza vs Knight Tile: Both are entry-level Karndean glue-down products sharing a 0.3mm wear layer. The difference is design direction — Palio Essenza is Italian-inspired while Knight Tile offers the more classic British wood and stone palette. • Palio Essenza vs Van Gogh: Van Gogh steps up to a 0.55mm wear layer, a more design-led plank range and the herringbone format. If you want a higher-specification Karndean glue-down floor or the herringbone finish, Van Gogh is the stronger choice.
• Palio Essenza vs Art Select: Art Select is Karndean’s premium glue-down tier with a significantly thicker wear layer (0.7mm), larger plank and parquet formats and more detailed surface finishing. Art Select is the right choice for statement floors and premium projects; Palio Essenza is the more accessible entry point.
