Wood Effect Herringbone LVT Flooring

Wood-effect herringbone is the parquet classic reimagined in luxury vinyl — the traditional 90-degree interlocking plank pattern that has been a feature of period British homes since the Victorian era, rebuilt on a waterproof, scratch-resistant, underfloor-heating-friendly LVT construction. It is the pattern designers pick when a room needs the warmth and movement of a timber parquet floor without the maintenance, the cost, or the water risk that comes with real wood in a kitchen or hallway. At Grosvenor Flooring we stock wood-effect herringbone across every major LVT brand — Amtico Form, Karndean Art Select, Project Floors Herringbone, and the Bodo Herringbone SPC and Tromso Herringbone collections from Nordikka.

See full-size herringbone samples in person at the 24/7 smart-lock Altrincham showroom, order free samples online, or send us a competitor quote through our enquiry form and we will match it the same working day.

What Is Wood Effect Herringbone LVT?

Herringbone is a parquet laying pattern in which rectangular planks are interlocked at 90-degree angles so each plank ends halfway along the next. Wood-effect herringbone LVT is the same pattern, produced as short luxury vinyl planks printed with a realistic timber decor and a textured surface, installed either plank-by-plank as a glue-down dryback floor or as click-lock rigid-core boards with the herringbone pattern already engineered into the joint system. The visual result is almost indistinguishable from a traditional oak parquet floor; the functional difference is waterproof, scratch-resistant, UFH-compatible and significantly lower maintenance.

Wood Effect Herringbone Ranges at Grosvenor Flooring

Amtico Form is Amtico’s dedicated herringbone and parquet collection — a 2.5mm dryback range built around natural wood aesthetics with a 0.7mm wear layer, designed for premium-domestic herringbone projects. The most-specified wood-effect herringbone in the UK premium market. Request a Price.

Karndean Art Select carries a herringbone format within the wider Art Select flagship dryback range — a 0.55mm wear layer, 25-year domestic warranty, and the full Karndean design library. Request a Price.

Project Floors Herringbone is the Project Floors dedicated herringbone collection — German-engineered, glue-down, with a depth of colour options and a strong price-to-spec ratio for projects wanting herringbone without the premium flagship price. Request a Price.

Bodo Herringbone SPC is the Nordikka rigid-core click-lock herringbone — a retrofit-friendly option for projects where lifting the existing floor is impractical, with the herringbone pattern engineered into the click joint system. Available to buy online with free samples.

Tromso Herringbone LVT is the Nordikka glue-down herringbone sibling — the same design language as Bodo on a dryback construction for new-build and fresh-install projects. Available to buy online.

Which Rooms Is Wood Effect Herringbone LVT Suited To?

Herringbone sits beautifully in any room that takes advantage of its visual movement — hallways and entrance corridors are the classic use case because the repeating pattern draws the eye down the length of the room, but kitchens, lounges and dining rooms are equally common in modern spec. The pattern works particularly well in period properties where an original parquet floor has been lost and the owner wants the look back without the cost and fragility of real wood, and in open-plan ground-floor projects where the herringbone run ties multiple zones together visually.

Glue Down vs Click Lock Herringbone

Glue-down herringbone (Amtico Form, Art Select, Project Floors, Tromso) is the format fitted plank-by-plank by an experienced installer onto a prepared, level subfloor. The finished floor is thinner, sits lower against doors and transitions, carries the premium design libraries, and is the format manufacturers recommend for underfloor heating. Click-lock rigid-core herringbone (Bodo) is a retrofit-friendly floating floor with the herringbone engineered into the click system — quicker to fit, more forgiving on slightly-uneven subfloors, and the right choice when you cannot lift the existing floor. Both look convincingly like real parquet once laid; the choice is driven by your subfloor, your retrofit constraints and whether the project is using UFH.

Underfloor Heating Compatibility

All herringbone LVT ranges we stock are compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating up to 27°C surface temperature, provided the manufacturer’s installation instructions are followed and the boxes are acclimatised in the room for at least 48 hours before fitting. Glue-down herringbone is the format manufacturers prefer for UFH because the continuous adhesive bond transfers heat efficiently; click-lock rigid-core is compatible but transfers heat slightly more slowly due to the air gap under the floating floor.

Installation Notes

Herringbone is not a DIY pattern. The 90-degree plank orientation compounds any error in the setting-out of the first run, so the starting line has to be laid perfectly square to the room or the pattern drifts visibly as it extends. Our own supply-and-fit teams handle the setting-out, the subfloor preparation, the levelling compound and the fit on every herringbone job across Cheshire and South Manchester, and we strongly recommend professional installation on any herringbone project regardless of brand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Wood Effect Herringbone LVT difficult to install myself?

Yes, due to the intricate herringbone pattern, installation is more challenging than with standard LVT planks. It requires careful measurement and precise placement to ensure the pattern is straight and symmetrical. For the best possible result, we highly recommend professional installation.

How does it compare to real wood herringbone flooring?

Wood Effect Herringbone LVT is a far more practical and durable choice. It is waterproof, easy to maintain, and more resistant to scratches and dents than real wood. While it perfectly replicates the visual of wood, it is a more affordable and long-lasting alternative to traditional timber flooring.

Can Wood Effect Herringbone LVT be used in a kitchen or bathroom?

Yes, absolutely. Its water-resistant properties make it an excellent choice for moisture-prone areas like kitchens and bathrooms. It allows you to have the sophisticated look of a herringbone floor in a room where a traditional wood floor would be at risk of water damage.
