Engineered Wood Parquet Flooring

Parquet is the umbrella term for any engineered wood floor laid in a geometric pattern rather than as a straight plank — herringbone, chevron and Versailles are the three formats that account for almost every parquet project we sell. Engineered wood is the right way to install all of them: the multi-ply core handles the dimensional movement that solid timber struggles with in centrally heated homes, while the real oak wear layer gives you the same look, feel and refinishing potential as a solid parquet block.

At Grosvenor Flooring we cover the engineered wood parquet category with two complementary collections. GF by Grosvenor Flooring is our own-brand oak range — herringbone and Versailles, named after Cheshire villages, with full online checkout, free samples and sharper pricing than the better-known UK premium brands. V4 Deco is V4’s parquet-led collection, covering small-format and XL herringbone, chevron and pattern blocks in oils, lacquers and brushed finishes, sold on a Request a Price basis.

What Is Engineered Wood Parquet?

Parquet is any wood floor where the boards are laid in a geometric pattern rather than as straight, parallel planks. The format predates wide-board plank flooring by several centuries — parquet was the default surface in European houses long before twentieth-century mass production made plank floors cheap to produce — and it has come back into fashion as buyers look for floors that feel made rather than mass-produced. Engineered wood parquet rebuilds the traditional block on a modern multi-ply core: a stable cross-grain base topped with a real oak wear layer, typically 3mm to 6mm thick. The finished surface is identical to a solid parquet block — same finishes, same ability to be sanded down years later — but the construction is engineered to handle underfloor heating and the temperature swings of a modern home.

The Three Parquet Formats

Herringbone — small rectangular blocks laid at right angles to one another, forming the classic woven zig-zag. The most specified parquet format in UK homes today, suitable for almost any room.

Chevron — the same idea, but with each block V-cut at the end so that the points meet in a continuous arrow. Sharper, more directional, more architectural; tends to suit modern kitchens and long hallways.

Versailles — large-format heritage panels made up of multiple smaller blocks set into a square. The most traditional of the three, specified almost exclusively in period properties and grand interiors.

The Parquet Collections We Stock

GF by Grosvenor Flooring covers herringbone and Versailles in our own-brand European oak. The GF Herringbone sub-collection is the largest — Alderley Oak, Farndon Oak and the rest of the Cheshire-named library — with full online checkout, transparent pricing, free samples and UK delivery. GF Versailles Pattern covers the heritage panel format for period property projects.

V4 Deco is V4 Wood Flooring’s parquet-led collection. It covers all three formats — small-format and XL herringbone, chevron and pattern blocks — in V4’s own oils, lacquers and brushed surfaces. Sold on a Request a Price basis.

Where to Use Engineered Wood Parquet

Parquet is most often specified in kitchens, hallways, dining rooms and lounges, and increasingly in bedrooms. As with all engineered wood, it should not be installed in bathrooms or wet rooms.

Underfloor Heating

All parquet ranges we stock are compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating, subject to a maximum surface temperature of 27°C and standard installation guidelines.

Installation Notes

All three parquet formats are more demanding to install than a straight plank. Patterns need to be set out from the centre line of the room, perimeter cuts have to be planned, and a mistake mid-floor is harder to recover from. Always use an experienced parquet fitter. For customers in the North West our own teams handle parquet installations regularly; for nationwide customers we are happy to advise on what to look for when choosing a local installer. Frequently Asked Questions

Is engineered wood parquet flooring a good choice for my home?

Yes, engineered wood parquet is an excellent choice for a variety of home styles. It provides the natural look and feel of real wood with the enhanced stability of an engineered product, while also offering a unique and decorative pattern that adds a sense of luxury and sophistication to any room.

Can I use engineered wood parquet flooring with underfloor heating?

Yes, engineered wood flooring is specifically designed to be used with underfloor heating systems. The multi-layered construction provides greater stability than solid wood, preventing the floor from expanding and contracting excessively with temperature fluctuations. However, it is always crucial to check that the specific product you choose is certified as suitable for this application.

How do I clean and maintain my engineered wood parquet floor?

To maintain your engineered wood floor, it is best to regularly sweep or vacuum using a soft brush attachment to remove dust and debris. For a deeper clean, you can use a damp mop with a cleaning product specifically recommended by the flooring manufacturer. It is important to avoid using excessive water or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can damage the wood's finish.
