Frequently Asked Questions

What is engineered wood parquet flooring?

Parquet is any wood floor laid in a geometric pattern rather than as straight planks. Engineered wood parquet builds that pattern from real oak blocks bonded to a stable multi-ply core, so you get an authentic parquet surface that can be sanded and re-finished while coping with underfloor heating and centrally heated homes.

What are the different parquet patterns?

Three cover almost every project. Herringbone uses rectangular blocks laid at right angles in a zig-zag. Chevron cuts the blocks so the points meet in a continuous arrow. Versailles is a large heritage panel of smaller woven blocks. All three are available as engineered oak.

Is engineered parquet real wood?

Yes. Each block carries a genuine oak wear layer, usually 3mm to 6mm thick, bonded to a multi-ply timber core. The surface you see and walk on is real oak that can be sanded and re-finished, exactly like a solid parquet block.

Is parquet suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes. Every parquet range we stock works with both wet and electric underfloor heating up to a maximum surface temperature of 27C. The engineered multi-ply core is what makes the pattern stable enough for heated floors, where solid parquet can move. Acclimatise the blocks for at least 48 hours before fitting.

Is parquet more expensive than plank flooring?

Usually a little. Parquet uses smaller blocks, so there are more pieces to mill and handle and the installation is more involved than a straight plank. Our own-label GF ranges keep the cost down by selling direct without a national brand premium.

Can engineered parquet be sanded and refinished?

Yes. Because the blocks carry a real oak wear layer, the floor can be sanded and re-finished. A thicker wear layer, up to around 6mm, allows more sandings over the life of the floor, which is the main thing to check when comparing ranges.

Which parquet ranges does Grosvenor Flooring stock?

Two. GF by Grosvenor Flooring covers herringbone and Versailles in our own-label European oak, available to buy online with full pricing and free samples. V4 Deco covers all three formats and is sold on a Request a Price basis. Both work over underfloor heating and both can be supplied and fitted across the North West.
