What Makes Illume Different from Alpha Oro

The Alpha Vinyl stone-effect offering is split across two tile ranges — Oro and Illume — that share identical construction specification but take opposite design directions. Oro is built around high-contrast, high-character stone effects including marble, volcanic rock and black slate; Illume is built around low-contrast, soft-tonal surfaces including concrete-inspired neutrals and a small pastel family. If you think of the two ranges as two ends of a spectrum, Oro is “floor as a visual focal point” and Illume is “floor as a calm neutral background”.

Illume’s eight designs break down into two loose design families. The first is concrete-inspired neutrals — Sandstone Concrete, Pebble Concrete, Oyster Concrete and Cloudy Concrete. Where Alpha Illume Works Best

Illume is most often specified in bathrooms, ensuites, kitchens, utility rooms and calm open-plan spaces — the rooms where a stone-effect tile is the design brief but the overall room scheme is intended to feel light, airy and uncluttered. The soft, diffuse tonal quality of the Illume prints means the floor visually recedes rather than competing with walls, cabinetry, splashbacks or soft furnishings. In rooms where the joinery or artwork is doing the design work, Illume lets the floor stay calm.

It is also a useful specification in smaller rooms where a darker or higher-contrast floor would make the space feel more enclosed. The lighter Illume designs — Sandstone Concrete, Pebble Concrete, Soft Sky, Soft Blush — are actively room-brightening, reflecting more natural light off the floor plane. How Alpha Illume Compares to Other Soft Stone LVT
