Click LVT – also called rigid core, SPC or click-fit luxury vinyl – is the floating-floor cousin of glue down. Each plank has a dense mineral core and a click joint cut into the edge, so the boards lock together over a thin underlay without the need for adhesive or extensive subfloor preparation. It is the format of choice when speed of installation matters, when the existing floor cannot be lifted, or when the project is a retrofit on top of an unforgiving subfloor.

What Is Click LVT?
Click LVT is a luxury vinyl plank built around a rigid SPC (stone plastic composite) core – typically around 4mm to 6.5mm thick – with a high-resolution print film, a deeply embossed surface and a clear PU wear layer of 0.3mm to 0.55mm. The edges of the board are precision-milled into a click profile, so two boards lock together mechanically without glue. The whole floor is laid as a floating raft on a thin acoustic underlay (often pre-attached to the underside of the plank) with a small expansion gap around the perimeter. Because the core is rigid, it bridges minor subfloor imperfections that would telegraph through a glue-down floor.

Click vs Glue Down vs Loose Lay
Click is the right choice for retrofits, rentals, upper floors and any project where lifting the existing floor is not an option. Glue down LVT is the right choice for new builds, kitchens, bathrooms and any project where dimensional stability is the priority – it is the format premium designers normally specify. Loose lay LVT is the right choice for commercial spaces where access to subfloor services has to be preserved.
Where to Use Click LVT
Click LVT is well suited to lounges, bedrooms, dining rooms and home offices. It can be used in kitchens and utility rooms, but make sure the range you choose is rated for those rooms – not all click cores are. For bathrooms and conservatories we usually recommend glue down instead.
Underfloor Heating
All the click LVT ranges we stock are compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating up to a maximum surface temperature of 27C. Click systems do trap a small amount of air between the underlay and the heated subfloor, so heat-up times are slightly longer than with glue down – but real-world performance is excellent. Acclimatise the boxes for at least 48 hours and follow the supplied installation guidelines.
Installation Notes
Click LVT is the most DIY-friendly LVT format, but a professional fit will still give you a tighter, flatter, longer-lasting floor – particularly around door frames, kitchen units and pipework.
