V4 Tundra Wood Flooring
V4 Tundra is the most format-rich part of the V4 catalogue — built on an unusual birch ply core construction for additional dimensional stability, and offered in four laying formats: plank, herringbone, chevron and large-format XL herringbone (100 x 500mm blocks). Where most premium engineered wood ranges stick to plank and herringbone, Tundra is the V4 collection to specify when the format itself is part of the design brief — the same four oak tones run through every Tundra format, so you can mix patterns through the home in the same colour.
Tundra is supplied through Grosvenor Flooring as an Approved V4 Gold Account retailer — V4’s premium retail tier — covering the UK with supply-and-fit available across Altrincham, Manchester and Cheshire. Pricing is on a Request a Price basis; we’ll quote a single all-in price including V4’s direct delivery to your address, and we’ll beat any genuine competitor quote you’ve already received. About V4 Tundra
Tundra is the V4 collection that earns its premium on the engineering rather than the colour palette. The birch ply core — sitting beneath a hardwood top layer of European Oak — gives the boards better dimensional stability under thermal cycling than a standard multi-ply construction. That matters for two scenarios in particular: installations over underfloor heating, and installations into rooms with significant seasonal temperature or humidity swings.
The format range is the second reason Tundra exists. Plank is the standard wide-board format. Herringbone gives you the classic 90-degree pattern. Chevron rakes the boards to a 45-degree angle for a more directional, contemporary look. XL Herringbone uses the same construction but in a much larger 100 x 500mm block — the format gives a calmer, more modern read of the herringbone pattern, with fewer joins per square metre. All four formats share the same four oak tones, finished with a mix of clear and coloured oils.
Designs in the Collection
Tundra covers four oak tones across plank, herringbone, chevron and XL herringbone formats. The full live design list and current product codes are best viewed on the collection page — V4 occasionally adds or refreshes shades, and the live page reflects the current range available through Grosvenor.
Plank, Herringbone, Chevron or XL Herringbone?
The choice between Tundra formats is almost purely about pattern intent and room scale. Plank is the default — wide boards in a straight lay, suiting open-plan spaces. Herringbone uses smaller blocks at a 90-degree angle for the classic parquet pattern, suiting principal rooms and entrance halls. Chevron rakes the boards to a 45-degree point for a more directional read, suiting contemporary projects where the floor pattern is part of the design statement. XL Herringbone uses 100 x 500mm blocks in an AB grade for a cleaner, larger-scale herringbone — the format suits rooms where standard herringbone would feel busy.
Many of our Tundra buyers specify two formats in the same colour — for example, plank in the open-plan space and herringbone in the entrance — for a coordinated whole-home scheme.
Why Choose V4 Tundra?
Tundra is the V4 collection most often specified when the project involves underfloor heating, when the room has significant temperature or humidity variation, or when the laying pattern is core to the design. The birch ply core construction is the structural reason; the four-format range is the design reason. If you’re choosing between Tundra and another premium engineered oak range, Tundra usually wins on the technical headroom — the floor is built to take more demanding installations than the standard multi-ply construction is rated for.
Where to Use V4 Tundra
Tundra is suitable for the typical UK living spaces where engineered oak performs best — lounges, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways, kitchens and offices — and is particularly well-suited to UFH installations and to rooms with significant thermal variation. As with all real-wood flooring, it’s not recommended for bathrooms, wet rooms or conservatories with severe temperature swings. For wet areas we’d usually steer clients towards luxury vinyl flooring instead.
Underfloor Heating
Tundra is the V4 collection we’d most actively recommend for water-based underfloor heating. The birch ply core gives the boards better dimensional stability under thermal cycling than a standard multi-ply construction, which means the floor handles seasonal heating/cooling cycles with less expansion and contraction at the board joins. V4’s standard UFH rules still apply — a 27°C maximum surface temperature, gradual commissioning before installation, and heat output matched to the floor build-up. Mention UFH when you request a price and we’ll match the floor build-up to your system.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is V4 Tundra Herringbone flooring?
V4 Tundra Herringbone is a range of engineered wood flooring consisting of parquet blocks specifically designed and sized (typically 70mm x 490mm) for creating classic herringbone patterns. It features a solid European Oak wear layer on a stable engineered base.
How is V4 Tundra Herringbone installed?
V4 Tundra Herringbone blocks use a tongue and groove profile and must be installed using a full-bond method. This means adhering each block directly to a prepared subfloor using a suitable flexible wood flooring adhesive. Floating installation is not suitable for this type of parquet.
Can V4 Tundra Herringbone be used with underfloor heating?
Yes, V4 Tundra Herringbone engineered parquet is suitable for installation over underfloor heating systems (water or electric). A full-bond installation is required, and V4's guidelines regarding subfloor preparation and maximum surface temperature (27°C) must be strictly followed.
