Quick-Step Classic Laminate Flooring

Classic is the Quick-Step laminate range that does the everyday job well. It is built around 8mm planks in a broad library of realistic oak designs – light and limed tones, warm mid-browns, contemporary greys – in a familiar 1200mm by 190mm board size that suits almost any room and any interior style.

It is a genuinely capable floor as well as an affordable one: an AC4 wear rating for heavy domestic use, the HydroSeal water-repellent surface for spill resistance, the Scratch Guard wear layer and a 20-year domestic warranty. For a dependable whole-home laminate floor without paying for a premium specification, Classic is the range we point most customers to first.

What Makes Quick-Step Classic Different?

Classic is the all-rounder of the Quick-Step laminate range – a wide choice of authentic oak decors at an accessible price, in a plank size that works everywhere. Many designs carry an embossed wood-structure finish that follows the printed grain for a more convincing surface and the planks have subtle micro-bevelled edges that define each board without dominating the look. At 1200mm by 190mm the plank size is deliberately versatile – large enough to feel contemporary, not so large that it overwhelms a smaller room – which is why Classic is the range most often specified for a whole house. Our Quick-Step Classic laminate guide covers the range in full.

The Quick-Step Classic Design Library

Classic offers one of the widest oak libraries in the Quick-Step laminate range, spanning the full tonal spread. At the lighter end sit designs such as Light Classic Oak, Raw Oak, Frosty Beige Oak, Sandy Oak and Reclaimed White Patina Oak – bright, airy tones for contemporary and Scandinavian-inspired rooms. The mid-tones include Havana Oak Natural, Honey Brown Oak, Warm Brown Oak, Sandy Greige Oak and Desert Greige Oak – versatile, warm shades that suit the majority of interiors.

For deeper, richer schemes the range runs to Cocoa Brown Oak, Biscuit Brown Oak, Peanut Brown Oak and Midnight Oak Natural, while Old Oak Light Grey gives a cooler, contemporary grey option. Across the library the focus is realistic, liveable oak rather than statement finishes – the right approach for a range built to carry a whole home.

Quick-Step Classic Specification

Classic planks are 8mm thick, measuring 1200mm by 190mm with an AC4 wear rating (Usage Class 32) – suitable for heavy domestic and moderate commercial use. The HydroSeal surface coating repels water and makes the range suitable for kitchens and bathrooms when installed correctly, including perimeter sealing with the appropriate sealant. The Scratch Guard wear layer resists micro-scratches up to ten times better than standard laminate. For more on HydroSeal and the rooms it suits, see our Quick-Step waterproof laminate guide.

Planks join with the patented Uniclic click system for a glueless floating installation. Classic carries a 20-year domestic warranty covering manufacturing defects and wear under normal residential use with a separate water-resistance warranty – typically around 10 years – when the floor is installed to Quick-Step’s guidelines. The range holds the EU Ecolabel and uses responsibly sourced, often PEFC-certified materials.

Where Classic Fits in the Quick-Step Laminate Range

Classic sits in the middle of the range – a clear step up from entry-level Creo in design choice and warranty length and a more affordable everyday alternative to the deeper-textured Impressive. If you want the most realistic wood texture, Impressive is worth the step up; if the floor is a design statement, Capture offers painted and patina finishes Classic does not. But for most whole-home projects, where the brief is a good-looking, hard-wearing oak floor at a sensible price, Classic is the sensible default and the range we recommend by volume. Our Quick-Step Classic vs Impressive comparison weighs the two up directly.

Where Quick-Step Classic Works Best

Classic suits living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, home offices and dining rooms and its AC4 rating means it copes well with high-traffic areas as well as quieter rooms. The HydroSeal surface makes it a sound option for kitchens, where everyday spills and splashes are inevitable and it can be used in bathrooms when installed and sealed strictly to guidelines. As with all laminate, it is not suitable for wet rooms or areas exposed to constant standing water. Its broad, neutral oak library makes it particularly easy to carry through several rooms for a consistent look across a home.

Installation

Classic installs as a floating floor using the Uniclic click system over a suitable underlay with no adhesive needed in the field. The click system is realistic for a competent DIY installer, though professional fitting ensures correct subfloor preparation, the right underlay choice and proper perimeter sealing – the last of which is essential to the water-resistance warranty in kitchens and bathrooms. A flat, dry, clean subfloor is the foundation of a good result. Our fitting teams cover Altrincham, Manchester and Cheshire.

Classic and Underfloor Heating

Classic is compatible with most common embedded underfloor heating systems, both water-based and electric, subject to a maximum surface temperature of 27 degreesC. An underlay with suitable thermal resistance is needed so heat transfers efficiently and the system should be brought up to temperature gradually after installation. Following Quick-Step’s guidance keeps the warranty valid.

Caring for Quick-Step Classic

Classic is straightforward to look after. Sweep or vacuum with a soft-brush attachment to lift grit and damp-mop with a well-wrung mop and a pH-neutral or Quick-Step-recommended laminate cleaner when needed. Avoid steam mops, abrasive cleaners, wax and polish and excessive water. Felt pads under furniture and a doormat at entrances do most of the work in keeping the floor looking new across its 20-year warranty period.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Quick-Step Classic laminate flooring truly waterproof?

Quick-Step Classic features HydroSeal technology, which makes the surface 100% water-resistant, preventing water from seeping into the joints for a period. This makes it suitable for use in kitchens and bathrooms. However, it's crucial to follow installation guidelines precisely, including using the Quick-Step Hydrokit sealant around the perimeter and expansion gaps, to qualify for the water resistance warranty. It is not suitable for wetrooms or areas with constant standing water.

How resistant is Quick-Step Classic to scratches?

It is highly scratch-resistant thanks to the patented Scratch Guard top layer. Quick-Step states this technology makes the floor up to ten times more resistant to micro-scratches than floors without Scratch Guard. This makes it a durable choice for active households.

Can I install Quick-Step Classic laminate myself?

Yes, the Uniclic system is designed for easy installation, making it suitable for competent DIYers. The planks click together securely without needing glue. However, proper subfloor preparation, use of the correct underlay, and careful attention to expansion gaps (and perimeter sealing for wet areas) are essential for a successful installation and warranty coverage. Professional fitting is always an option for a guaranteed perfect result.

What is the warranty on Quick-Step Classic flooring?

Quick-Step Classic laminate flooring typically comes with a substantial 20-year domestic warranty, covering manufacturing defects and wear resistance under normal residential use. There is also often a separate 10-year warranty covering water resistance when installed correctly in accordance with Quick-Step's instructions, including the use of specific accessories like Hydrokit sealant. Always check the specific warranty details for the product purchased.
