Kährs Engineered Wood Flooring
Kährs is one of the most specified engineered wood flooring brands in the world and the oldest name in the category. Founded in Nybro, Sweden in 1857 and the inventor of the world’s first engineered parquet floor in 1941, Kährs still manufactures to a standard that UK interior designers, specifiers and discerning homeowners recognise from show homes, heritage projects and design-led residential interiors across the country.
Grosvenor Flooring is a Kährs Approved Retailer. This approval matters: Kährs’ manufacturer warranties require professional installation by an approved retailer using approved methods and accessories, so buying through us ensures your floor is fully covered. We stock the full UK Kährs range and can supply across the UK or supply and fit for customers in Altrincham, Manchester and Cheshire. To discuss your project and request a price, get in touch via our enquiry form, WhatsApp or by phone.

About Kährs Wood Flooring
Kährs began life as a Swedish furniture workshop in 1857, but the defining moment in the brand’s history came in 1941 when Kährs invented the world’s first engineered wood floor — a multi-layer construction designed to be more dimensionally stable than solid wood, more sustainable in its use of slow-growing hardwood and better suited to modern homes. Every engineered wood floor made anywhere in the world today traces its construction back to that original Kährs invention.
More than eighty years on, Kährs still manufactures in Sweden and produces one of the widest and deepest wood flooring catalogues on the market — over 200 oak products in the UK range alone, plus collections in ash, hard maple, walnut, beech, cherry and European maple. Every Kährs floor uses the brand’s proprietary Woodloc® joint system (5S and 5G variants, plus Tongue & Groove, Fold Down and Unifit X depending on the range) for fast, clean installation, and surfaces are finished in Kährs’ own oils, matt lacquers, ultra-matt lacquers and satin lacquers — with brushed, handscraped, smoked, saw-marked and wooden-plug textures available across the range. PEFC and FSC®-certified timber is available where specified, and the brand’s Swedish mill runs on renewable energy.
As a Kährs Approved Retailer, Grosvenor Flooring can offer the full UK range, validate Kährs’ manufacturer warranties, and provide installation through our trained fitting teams for customers in the North West.
The Kährs Range: An Overview
Kährs organises its catalogue into more than thirty named collections, grouped below into six logical themes. Every Kährs wood floor is available in plank, 3-strip, 2-strip, herringbone, chevron or Dutch pattern formats, in thicknesses from 7mm up to 18mm, with 2-layer parquet, 3-layer parquet and veneer constructions depending on the collection. The right collection depends on the look you want, the format required and the project type.
Premium and design-led plank — the most specified Kährs collections for design-led residential and commercial projects. The Lux Collection is Kährs’ flagship extra-wide plank in the longest and widest proportions the brand offers. Capital Collection brings a clean, contemporary urban palette. Grande is the original extra-wide plank and sits within the wider Kährs Supreme line. Domani, Element and Royal offer refined, architectural wide-plank options. Also in this group: Beyond Retro (smoked and lime-washed design palettes), Tempest (weathered tones), Piazza (Italian-inspired plank), Ingresso (entrance-statement plank), Classic Nouveau (updated traditional styling) and Lumen (light, airy, Scandinavian).
Rustic and handscraped plank — for buyers who want character, texture and the look of an older, lived-in floor. The Artisan Collection is Kährs’ most-specified rustic and handscraped plank, with seven oak floors showing strong grain movement, knots and a tactile hand-worked surface. Da Capo extends the handscraped style into deeper, heritage-inspired colour palettes for period properties and listed buildings. Boardwalk takes the rustic plank in a more weathered, relaxed direction. Sand, Texture and Duramen complete the rustic family with characterful grain and surface textures.
Herringbone and pattern formats — Kährs is one of the few premium brands to invest seriously in herringbone and pattern flooring. The Studio Collection is Kährs’ small-format herringbone with seven ranges in proportions that fit most UK rooms well. The Large Herringbone Collection extends herringbone into larger-scale boards for wider rooms and open-plan spaces. The Life Authentic Herringbone Collection brings herringbone into the veneer construction (see below) for renovation-friendly projects.
Classic Swedish heritage — the collections closest to Kährs’ Swedish origins. The Småland Collection is named after the region of Sweden where Kährs is still manufactured and offers classic plank and 3-strip configurations in understated Scandinavian tones. Tres Collection and Harmony Collection extend the Swedish-heritage look into broader plank and 3-strip offers. Essential rounds out the heritage line with the most pared-back, timeless options in the range.
Nature-inspired and sustainability-led — collections that draw on specific natural environments or particular sustainability priorities. Flora is Kährs’ thin-top-layer parquet range, designed to use less hardwood per square metre. Fauna and Zen bring nature-inspired palettes into plank and 3-strip formats. Ground Collection is a 3-strip long-plank oak and ash range inspired by the tones of the natural landscape. European Naturals, American Naturals and Nordic Naturals group Kährs’ most straightforward, species-led plank ranges by timber origin. European Renaissance pulls on traditional European floor design, and Götaland Collection draws on the landscapes of southern Sweden.
Life Authentic veneer — a distinct construction type within the Kährs catalogue. The Life Authentic Plank and Life Essential collections are veneer floors: a genuine hardwood top layer on an engineered core, thinner overall than parquet (typically 7mm) and designed specifically for renovation projects where floor height needs to be kept low. Life floors are not sandable but the veneer construction makes them extremely hard-wearing. A strong option for flat renovations, loft conversions and retrofit projects where fitting over an existing floor is the priority.

Why Buy Kährs Through an Approved Retailer?
Kährs’ manufacturer warranties are conditional on professional installation by an approved retailer using Kährs’ own methods, accessories and locking systems. Buying from an approved retailer is not simply a commercial preference — it is the mechanism through which your warranty is validated. An approved retailer ensures the correct subfloor preparation, acclimatisation, expansion gaps and Woodloc® installation technique are used. Without this, your warranty may be voided regardless of the product’s quality.
At Grosvenor Flooring, we have been supplying and fitting premium engineered wood flooring, including Kährs, for many years. Our fitting teams are experienced across plank, 3-strip, herringbone and chevron layouts, know their way around the Woodloc® joint system and its variants, and will prepare and lay the floor to the standard Kährs’ warranty requires. Self-install is still supported on most Kährs ranges via Woodloc®, but for warranty-critical projects we always recommend supply and fit through our team. For customers outside the North West, we supply nationwide and can provide installation guidance to help keep your warranty valid.

Kährs Wood Flooring and Underfloor Heating
Every Kährs wood floor in the UK range is compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating, subject to a maximum surface temperature of 27°C and standard installation guidelines. Kährs’ engineered construction — pioneered by the brand itself in 1941 — is inherently more dimensionally stable than solid wood, which is what makes it suitable for underfloor heating in the first place. The 2-layer and 3-layer parquet constructions are rated for both floating and glue-down installation over UFH; the Life Authentic veneer floors are particularly thin and transfer heat well. Always follow Kährs’ installation instructions to ensure compatibility and preserve your warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I clean and maintain a Kährs wood floor?
Vacuum or dry-mop regularly to remove grit and dust, then damp-mop with a well-wrung cloth and a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner as needed. For oiled floors, Kährs Satin Oil refreshes the surface over time; for lacquered floors, Kährs Lacquer Refresher keeps the finish in condition. Avoid steam cleaners, excessive water and harsh detergents. Entrance mats reduce grit, and furniture pads protect against scratches — with basic care a Kährs floor is built to last for decades.
What's the difference between Kährs parquet and Kährs Life veneer?
Kährs parquet is a 2-layer or 3-layer construction with a solid hardwood top layer, sandable and rated for decades of use — this covers almost the entire Kährs range including Lux, Capital, Artisan, Studio and Småland. Kährs Life is a veneer construction: a genuine hardwood top layer bonded to an engineered core, around 7mm total thickness, not sandable but extremely hard-wearing thanks to the dense veneer surface. Life is designed specifically for renovation and retrofit projects where low floor build-up is the priority.
Can I install Kährs flooring myself?
Yes, on ranges using the Woodloc® 5S or 5G click joint system — which covers most floating-install Kährs parquet and the entire Life veneer range. Self-installation is straightforward with basic tools, and Kährs publishes step-by-step video guides for the process. However, manufacturer warranties are strongest when installation is handled by a Kährs Approved Retailer using Kährs' own methods and accessories — for warranty-critical projects we always recommend supply and fit through our team.
Are all Kährs collections suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes. Every Kährs wood floor in the current UK range is compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating, subject to a maximum surface temperature of 27°C and adherence to Kährs' installation instructions. The 2-layer parquet and Life veneer constructions transfer heat particularly efficiently; the 3-layer parquet ranges are rated for both floating and glue-down install over UFH. Always check the individual product data sheet before specifying.
