Quick-Step Alpha Ciro Herringbone Flooring

Quick-Step Alpha Ciro is the herringbone range within Quick-Step’s rigid core Alpha Vinyl collection — a 6mm SPC plank specifically engineered for herringbone installations using Quick-Step’s Unizip single-plank locking system. Ciro is one of the few rigid core LVT herringbone ranges on the market that avoids the traditional A-plank / B-plank split, which means faster, less error-prone installation and a cleaner finished look across the diagonal seams. It is 100% waterproof, carries pre-attached acoustic underlay on every SKU and is backed by Quick-Step’s lifetime residential warranty.

Grosvenor Flooring stocks all six Alpha Ciro designs online with free UK delivery on orders over the carriage threshold and our price match promise against any UK retailer. Why Ciro’s Unizip System Matters for Herringbone

Traditional herringbone flooring — whether engineered wood or click LVT — is supplied in two distinct plank profiles, usually labelled A-plank and B-plank. The two profiles click together at 90° angles to form the herringbone pattern, but they are not interchangeable: if you run out of A-planks before B-planks (or vice versa) halfway through a job, the installation stops until you re-order. Cut-offs are also more difficult to redeploy because the plank’s orientation matters.

Ciro uses Quick-Step’s Unizip system, which is a single-plank herringbone format. Every plank in the box is identical — both sides of the plank carry the click profile needed to form the herringbone pattern. This removes the A/B ordering problem, makes cut-offs freely reusable, and meaningfully reduces installation time. For professional fitters, Ciro saves labour. For anyone considering a DIY herringbone install, it is one of the few rigid core herringbone products that is realistically achievable without specialist experience.

Every Ciro plank is also supplied with pre-attached acoustic underlay engineered to sit correctly across the diagonal seams of a herringbone installation — another point where traditional herringbone products often fall short, since separate underlay can shift or bunch at the seam intersections.

The Quick-Step Alpha Ciro Colour Library

The Ciro range covers six wood-effect colourways, all oak-grain inspired. From pale, bleached-oak tones through to dark, smoked oak finishes, the range is pitched at herringbone projects that want a genuine oak look rather than the cooler greys or warmer reds that dominate entry-level herringbone LVT ranges. Each design carries high-definition embossed grain patterning and genuine bevelled edges along the plank perimeter, which is what gives the finished floor the plank-to-plank definition that herringbone needs to read correctly.

The six Ciro designs cover the three most-specified herringbone tones in the UK market — honey-warm mid-oak, beige-natural light oak and smoked / dark oak — with two additional pale designs (Pure Oak Blush and Pure Oak Polar) for cooler, Scandinavian-leaning interiors. There is no stone-effect or abstract colourway in the Ciro range; for stone-effect tile formats within Alpha Vinyl, Illume and Oro are the corresponding collections.

Where Alpha Ciro Works Best

Herringbone is most commonly specified in kitchens, dining rooms, entrance halls, open-plan ground floors and period-property refits where the pattern adds architectural interest. Because Ciro is rigid core SPC rather than engineered wood, it is also suitable in places where traditional wood herringbone would be inappropriate — family bathrooms, utility rooms, boot rooms and other moisture-prone zones. The 100% waterproof construction and sealed Hydroseal click joints mean occasional spills and splashes are not a concern.

In larger open-plan spaces, the herringbone pattern creates a subtle visual break between functional zones without the need for different flooring materials or a transition strip. In smaller spaces — a hallway, a downstairs WC — herringbone can actually make the room feel larger because the diagonal pattern draws the eye the length of the space rather than across it.

Alpha Ciro Compared to Other Herringbone LVT

The most direct cross-shops for Alpha Ciro are Karndean Van Gogh herringbone, Amtico Signature herringbone (glue-down) and the herringbone designs in the Alva LVT range. Each of these has its own merits, and the right choice depends on what you are prioritising:

  • vs Karndean Van Gogh herringbone: Van Gogh is Karndean’s flagship glue-down herringbone range and uses a 0.3mm wear layer with a traditional A/B plank format. Karndean is sold on a request-a-price basis with no pricing visible online. Ciro is click-installation, includes pre-attached underlay, and is typically priced lower per square metre. For details, see our Karndean herringbone guide.
  • vs Amtico Signature herringbone: Amtico Signature is a premium glue-down LVT with a 1mm wear layer and lifetime warranty when installed by an Amtico Approved Retail Partner. Signature herringbone is higher specification than Ciro but also meaningfully more expensive and requires glue-down installation. See our Amtico herringbone laying patterns guide for how Amtico compares across format options.
  • vs Alva herringbone LVT: The Alva range also offers a rigid core click herringbone at a comparable price point to Ciro and is available to buy online directly. Where Ciro’s differentiator is the single-plank Unizip system, Alva’s is the broader colour library including greys and cooler tones. Read our Alva herringbone flooring guide for the full comparison.
  • vs budget rigid core herringbone: If you are purely price-driven, our cheap herringbone flooring guide covers the entry-level options. Ciro sits above these on specification but is not the cheapest herringbone in the UK LVT market.

Ciro Installation Notes

Herringbone installation — even with the Unizip single-plank system — is more time-consuming than straight-lay plank installation. Allow approximately 40% more labour time on a herringbone project compared to a straight-lay install of equivalent square metreage, and budget for approximately 10–15% wastage on offcuts (higher than the 5–8% typical for straight-lay plank flooring). A clean, flat subfloor with moisture readings in range is non-negotiable for any rigid core herringbone install to finish correctly.

Ciro is compatible with underfloor heating systems — both water-based and electric — subject to Quick-Step’s 27°C maximum surface temperature and gradual ramp-up protocols. Ramp-up should happen over several days after installation rather than on day one, to allow the rigid core to acclimatise across the herringbone seams. If you would like Ciro installed through our supply and fit service, our fitting teams in Altrincham, Manchester and Cheshire are experienced with rigid core herringbone installations; contact us with your project details for a fitted quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Quick-Step Ciro flooring completely waterproof?

Yes, Quick-Step Ciro is 100% waterproof. Its combination of a water-repellent surface finish and the tight Uniclic joint system prevents water from penetrating the planks or tiles, making it ideal for installation in bathrooms, kitchens, and other areas prone to moisture.

Can Quick-Step Ciro be installed over an existing floor?

Often, yes. Thanks to its rigid core construction, Ciro can frequently be installed directly over existing hard surface flooring like tiles or vinyl, provided the existing floor is level, stable, and clean. However, a proper subfloor assessment by professionals like Grosvenor Flooring is always recommended to ensure the best results and longevity.

Is Quick-Step Ciro compatible with underfloor heating?

Yes, Quick-Step Ciro vinyl flooring is suitable for use with low-temperature water-based underfloor heating systems. It's important to follow both the flooring and heating system manufacturers' guidelines regarding installation, temperature limits, and operation to ensure compatibility and performance.

How should I clean and maintain Quick-Step Ciro flooring?

Cleaning Ciro flooring is simple. Regular vacuuming (using a soft brush attachment) or sweeping removes dust and debris. For general cleaning, use a damp microfibre mop with water and a pH-neutral cleaner recommended by Quick-Step. Avoid harsh detergents, abrasive cleaners, wax, or steam cleaners, as these can damage the surface.
