Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Ranges Explained

Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Ranges Explained – Grosvenor Flooring

Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Ranges Explained — Bloom, Blos, Ciro, Illume and Oro

Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl is split into five distinct sub-ranges, each with its own format, design library, price point and target use case. Confusingly, Quick-Step markets all five under a single Alpha Vinyl banner with similar product photography, which makes it genuinely difficult to tell them apart from the brand’s own website. This guide walks through each range in detail, pulls out the practical differences that matter when you are choosing between them, and closes with a decision tree for picking the right one for your project.

If you are new to Alpha Vinyl as a whole, read our full Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl review first — it covers construction, durability, pricing and how the range compares against Karndean, Amtico, Alva and Nordikka. This guide assumes you have already decided Alpha Vinyl is the right brand and just need to pick between the five sub-ranges.

All five ranges share the same core construction — 6mm rigid SPC core (5mm on Blos), pre-attached acoustic underlay on most SKUs, Uniclic click-lock system (Unizip on Ciro), 0.3mm wear layer with Scratch & Stain Guard, 100% waterproof Hydroseal joint sealing, and a lifetime residential warranty when installed to Quick-Step’s technical guidelines. All five are compatible with underfloor heating at a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. Prices listed are indicative and visible live on each product page at Grosvenor Flooring.

Alpha Bloom — The Broad Wood-Effect Plank Range

Alpha Bloom is the widest wood-effect plank range in Alpha Vinyl, with 25 designs across warm oaks, cool greys, pines and pale Scandinavian tones. It is the range to default to when the project is a whole-home installation or open-plan ground floor where a single floor needs to sit correctly against multiple different wall colours, kitchen finishes and natural light conditions.

Construction: 6mm rigid core SPC, pre-attached acoustic underlay on majority of SKUs, Uniclic click system, 0.3mm wear layer with Scratch & Stain Guard, lifetime residential warranty.

Design library: The largest in Alpha Vinyl. Warm oaks (Botanic Beige, Cotton Oak Beige, Pure Oak Honey, Amber Oak, Honey Oak, Brushed Oak Beige, Brushed Oak Honey). Cooler and paler oaks (Pure Oak Polar, Cotton Oak White Blush, Pure Oak Blush, Cotton Oak Cold Grey). Greys (Cotton Oak Cozy Grey, Botanic Grey). Dark oaks (Botanic Smoked Oak, Elegant Oak Fumed, Cotton Oak Deep Natural, Elegant Oak Natural). A small pine family (Sundown Pine, Morning Mist Pine, Snow Pine) for more rustic, character-led interiors.

Choose Bloom when: you need a wood-effect plank and you either want the widest possible colour choice, or you are running the floor across multiple rooms where tonal flexibility matters, or you are refurbishing a whole property where the broader Bloom library gives you a better chance of matching fixed existing elements.

Don’t choose Bloom when: you specifically need a herringbone pattern (use Ciro), want a stone-effect tile (use Illume or Oro), or are price-led enough that the Blos colour library would do the job.

Alpha Blos — The Budget-Tier Plank Range

Alpha Blos is the entry price point for Alpha Vinyl — 15 oak-dominated plank designs at the lowest cost per square metre in the range. Blos carries the same core waterproof construction, same Uniclic system and same lifetime warranty as the other ranges, but in a slimmer 5mm plank profile with a tighter, more focused design library.

Construction: 5mm rigid core SPC (slimmer than the 6mm used on Bloom and the tile ranges), Uniclic click system, 0.3mm wear layer with Scratch & Stain Guard, 100% waterproof Hydroseal joint sealing, lifetime residential warranty. Check individual SKUs for pre-attached underlay — most but not all Blos designs include integrated underlay.

Design library: 15 oak designs across warm, cool and dark tones. Warm oaks include Coast Oak Honey, Canyon Oak Beige, Canyon Oak Natural, Coast Oak Beige, Coast Oak Sand, Buttermilk Oak, Gingerbread Oak, Classic Oak Natural and Cottage Oak Natural. Cooler tones include Canyon Oak Grey, Silk Oak Dark Grey, Drift Oak Beige and Chia Oak. Darker tones represented by Cocoa Oak and Vintage Chestnut Natural.

Choose Blos when: budget is the primary driver; you are specifying flooring across a whole rental property, new-build development, or large-footprint installation where cost per square metre compounds meaningfully; and the colour you need is already in the Blos library.

Don’t choose Blos when: the specific colour you want is only in Bloom’s larger library; you need the 6mm construction for denting resistance under heavy furniture; or your project has a premium brief where the tighter Blos design range would feel limiting.

Alpha Ciro — The Herringbone Range

Alpha Ciro is the only herringbone range within Alpha Vinyl — a 6mm rigid SPC plank designed specifically for herringbone installations using Quick-Step’s Unizip single-plank locking system. Unlike traditional herringbone products that require A-plank and B-plank profiles (ordered in balance to form the diagonal pattern), Ciro uses identical planks throughout. Both sides of each plank carry the click profile needed to form the herringbone — which simplifies ordering, eliminates the A-plank-short problem mid-job, and makes cut-offs freely reusable.

Construction: 6mm rigid core SPC, pre-attached acoustic underlay engineered to sit correctly across diagonal seams, Unizip single-plank click system, 0.3mm wear layer with Scratch & Stain Guard, 100% waterproof Hydroseal joint sealing, lifetime residential warranty.

Design library: Six wood-effect oak designs — Botanic Beige Herringbone, Botanic Caramel Oak, Pure Oak Honey, Botanic Smoked Oak, Pure Oak Blush and Pure Oak Polar. The range covers the three most-specified herringbone tones in the UK market (warm honey oak, beige natural oak, smoked dark oak) plus two additional pale designs for Scandinavian-leaning schemes.

Choose Ciro when: you specifically want a herringbone pattern. Ciro is the only Alpha Vinyl range engineered for herringbone installation — the other ranges are straight plank or square tile.

Don’t choose Ciro when: straight-lay plank is the brief (Bloom or Blos cost less per square metre and install faster), or stone-effect tile is the look (Illume or Oro).

Alpha Illume — The Soft Stone-Effect Tile Range

Alpha Illume is the softer, lighter-palette stone-effect tile range — eight designs split between concrete-inspired neutrals (Sandstone, Pebble, Oyster, Cloudy) and a family of four muted pastels (Soft Sage, Soft Blush, Soft Sky, Soft Graphite). Illume is specified most often in kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and calm open-plan spaces where the floor is intentionally a recessive background rather than a design feature.

Construction: 6mm rigid core SPC, pre-attached acoustic underlay on most SKUs, Uniclic click system, 0.3mm wear layer with Scratch & Stain Guard, 100% waterproof Hydroseal joint sealing, lifetime residential warranty.

Design library: Eight designs. The concrete-inspired neutrals (Sandstone Concrete, Pebble Concrete, Oyster Concrete, Cloudy Concrete) are the closest LVT cross-shops for polished concrete or honed sandstone tiles in harder materials. The Soft pastel group (Soft Sage, Soft Blush, Soft Sky, Soft Graphite) is unusual in the UK market — very few rigid core stone-effect LVT ranges offer coloured pastels at all.

Choose Illume when: the design brief is stone-effect tile but the room scheme is intentionally light, calm and uncluttered; the specific floor is in a bathroom, ensuite, utility room, kitchen or smaller room where a light floor is actively room-brightening; or you want one of the pastel designs (the four Soft colourways have no close analogue in other LVT ranges).

Don’t choose Illume when: you want a stone floor to be a visual design feature (go to Oro); you want a wood-effect plank (Bloom, Blos or Ciro); or the room has very dark walls and cabinetry where a darker floor anchor is needed.

Alpha Oro — The Dramatic Stone-Effect Tile Range

Alpha Oro is Illume’s opposite — high-contrast, high-character stone-effect tile designs intended to make the floor a central element of the room’s design scheme. The seven Oro designs include Marble Carrara White (high-contrast veined white), Black Slate (deep charcoal with grain definition), Volcanic Rock and Oxidized Rock (industrial / weathered stone textures), Coral Rock, Concrete Rock and Cinnamon Rock.

Construction: 6mm rigid core SPC, pre-attached acoustic underlay on most SKUs, Uniclic click system, 0.3mm wear layer with Scratch & Stain Guard, 100% waterproof Hydroseal joint sealing, lifetime residential warranty. Identical to Illume on specification; the difference is in the printing depth and embossing texture of the design films.

Design library: Seven dramatic stone-effect tile designs across three loose families — marble (Carrara White), dark stones (Black Slate, Volcanic Rock, Coral Rock), and industrial / concrete-adjacent stones (Oxidized Rock, Concrete Rock, Cinnamon Rock).

Choose Oro when: the floor is intended to be a visual design feature rather than a neutral background; the room has a contemporary or design-led scheme with slab-fronted cabinetry, handleless kitchens or monochrome interiors; you specifically want a marble-look, slate-look or industrial stone-look floor; or you are specifying a statement room — typically a kitchen, open-plan ground floor, or entrance hall.

Don’t choose Oro when: you want a calm, recessive floor (go to Illume); you want wood-effect (go to Bloom, Blos or Ciro); or the room already has strong competing visual elements (patterned splashbacks, statement wall finishes) where the floor would add visual noise rather than cohesion.

Which Alpha Vinyl Range Should You Choose? — Decision Tree

If the decision logic above still feels loose, this decision tree walks through it directly:

  1. Do you want a wood look or a stone look?
Wood look → go to step 2.
Stone look → go to step 4.
  2. Do you want a herringbone pattern?
    Yes → Alpha Ciro.
No (straight-lay plank) → go to step 3.
  3. Is cost the dominant factor, and is the colour you want in a 15-design oak-led library?
    Yes → Alpha Blos.
    No → Alpha Bloom.
  4. Do you want the floor to be a design feature, or a calm neutral background?
    Design feature → Alpha Oro.
    Calm background → Alpha Illume.

If you get stuck between Bloom and Blos on step 3, the usable test is: open both product ranges side by side and look at the colour you want. If it is only in Bloom, pay the extra for Bloom — the tonal fit matters more than the cost saving. If the colour is in both ranges, default to Blos and put the saving into other parts of the project.

If you get stuck between Illume and Oro on step 4, the test is whether the rest of the room’s design scheme is doing visual work or not. If the kitchen has slab-fronted cabinetry in a single colour, handleless ironmongery and neutral walls, the floor can afford to do design work — Oro. If the room already has strong pattern, colour or texture elsewhere, the floor should stay calm — Illume.
