What is Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core?
Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core is a luxury vinyl tile range built on rigid SPC click construction. Each plank is 6mm thick overall: a 1mm IXPE acoustic underlay bonded to the underside, a rigid SPC core of approximately 4mm, a decorative print film, a 0.3mm transparent wear layer and Polyflor’s PUR (polyurethane reinforcement) factory-applied top coat. The plank edges carry Valinge 5G press-fit click locking on every side, so installation is by clicking planks together at the joint without adhesive. The floor floats over the existing subfloor on the integral underlay.
Camaro Rigid Core replaces the older Camaro Loc click product, which Polyflor has discontinued. The new range is a meaningful upgrade: rigid SPC core (more dimensionally stable than the older PVC core), modern Valinge 5G locking (faster fitting, tighter joints), integral IXPE acoustic underlay (18 decibel impact noise reduction), and the dedicated herringbone designs not available in Camaro Loc.
The Camaro Rigid Core Design Library
The wood-effect designs cover the popular Camaro woodgrains in click format including Astoria Oak, Bayswater Oak, Bianco Oak, Boathouse Oak, Cashmere Oak, Fenland Oak, Naked Blond Oak, Natural Oak, Quayside Oak, Rosedale Oak, Salvaged Timber, Sienna Oak and Westchester Oak.
The dedicated herringbone designs are Camaro Rigid Core’s signature: Westchester Oak Herringbone (RPQ4141), Waterside Oak Herringbone (RPQ4143), Naked Blond Oak Herringbone (RPQ4144) and Astoria Oak Herringbone (RPQ4147). These ship at specific plank sizes engineered for the herringbone layout in click format – rare in the UK click-LVT market and a meaningful product advantage.

Where Camaro Rigid Core Works Best
Camaro Rigid Core is the Polyflor range to specify for retrofit installations over existing solid floors (existing screed, tile, engineered wood in good condition), upstairs rooms in houses or flats where the integral acoustic underlay’s impact noise reduction matters, DIY-friendly installations where dryback adhesive and screed prep are not suitable, and herringbone-pattern click installations where the dedicated RPQ-series designs are the look you want.
For new builds, UFH-led installations or whole-home dryback specifications, glue-down Camaro is typically the better call. Detailed in our Polyflor Camaro vs Camaro Rigid Core comparison.
The Camaro Rigid Core Herringbone Story
The dedicated herringbone designs are the strongest part of the Camaro Rigid Core offer. Most click-LVT manufacturers do not make herringbone in click format – the manufacturing tooling and the locking-profile engineering for parquet block sizes is complex enough that it puts most click-LVT brands off. Polyflor’s RPQ-series (RPQ4141 Westchester Oak Herringbone, RPQ4143 Waterside Oak Herringbone, RPQ4144 Naked Blond Oak Herringbone, RPQ4147 Astoria Oak Herringbone) ship at the correct plank size for a true herringbone layout, with the Valinge 5G locking profile engineered for the smaller block format.
The result is a herringbone floor that installs without adhesive over an existing solid subfloor – rare in the UK LVT market and a meaningful product advantage when the project brief is a contemporary herringbone aesthetic in a retrofit context. For traditional residential parquet (Cambridge Parquet 2251, Georgian Parquet 2252), the glue-down Camaro range remains the typical specification because the traditional aesthetic suits dryback installation. For contemporary oversized-herringbone in click format, Camaro Rigid Core is the answer.
Installation Detail
Camaro Rigid Core floats over the existing subfloor on its integral IXPE acoustic underlay. Standard installation sequence: confirm the subfloor is flat (3mm tolerance over 2 metres is the typical benchmark – the SPC core tolerates more variation than dryback LVT but not unlimited), sound and dry; sweep and vacuum to remove debris; lay an expansion gap perimeter (typically 8 to 10mm against walls); click the first row along a reference line; continue building the floor row by row using the Valinge 5G press-fit profile.
The expansion gap matters: SPC click flooring expands and contracts marginally with temperature changes, particularly over underfloor heating, and the perimeter gap accommodates this movement. Cover the expansion gap with skirting board or scotia trim once installation is complete. For doorways and thresholds, transition profiles separate one floor from the next while accommodating the click product’s marginal movement.
Camaro Rigid Core is the most DIY-friendly product in the Polyflor LVT range. A competent general fitter or experienced DIY installer can lay it without specialist LVT-fitting tools, no adhesive set time and no second-chance restriction on plank position. For skilled professional installation, a commercial-LVT fitter completes the same job significantly faster than glue-down LVT thanks to the absence of adhesive cure time.
Camaro Rigid Core and Underfloor Heating
Camaro Rigid Core is compatible with both wet (hydronic) and electric UFH systems subject to Polyflor’s 27 degree Celsius maximum surface temperature. The integral 1mm IXPE acoustic underlay does add a thin insulation layer between the heated screed and the floor surface, which slows heat-up times marginally and reduces output for the same screed temperature by approximately 5 to 10 per cent compared to glue-down Camaro on the same UFH zone.
In practice, this matters less than the spec sheet suggests for most residential UFH installations. The integral underlay reduces output but not enough to compromise normal residential heating performance. For UFH-led installations where heat output is the primary driver of the floor choice (typically large open-plan kitchen-diners with UFH as the only heat source), glue-down Camaro is the marginally better choice. For typical residential UFH with the heating supplementing other heat sources, Camaro Rigid Core delivers normal performance.
Use a floor probe rather than a room thermostat to monitor the actual surface temperature, commission the UFH gradually after installation (do not switch on to full temperature within 48 hours of fitting), and follow Polyflor’s UFH-specific commissioning guidance.
Camaro Rigid Core vs Karndean Knight Tile Rigid Core
Camaro Rigid Core is most commonly cross-shopped with Karndean Knight Tile Rigid Core (Karndean’s equivalent SPC click product). The key differences: Camaro Rigid Core’s integral IXPE acoustic underlay delivers 18 decibel impact noise reduction; Knight Tile Rigid Core’s underlay varies by product. Camaro Rigid Core ships dedicated herringbone designs (the RPQ-series); Knight Tile Rigid Core does not offer dedicated herringbone in click format. Camaro Rigid Core is UK-manufactured at Polyflor Whitefield; Knight Tile Rigid Core is imported. Pricing is comparable.
For most click-LVT decisions, the integral acoustic underlay and dedicated herringbone designs are the deciding factors. Where these matter, Camaro Rigid Core is the better call.
Was Camaro Loc Discontinued?
Yes. Polyflor’s older Camaro Loc click product has been discontinued and replaced by Camaro Rigid Core. The new range uses modern Valinge 5G locking, rigid SPC core construction and integral IXPE acoustic underlay – all upgrades on the older Camaro Loc design. URLs that previously pointed to Camaro Loc now redirect to this Camaro Rigid Core category. If you were researching Camaro Loc, Camaro Rigid Core is the current product.

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core PUR?
Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core PUR is a type of luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring. It features a Stone Plastic Composite (SPC) core, making it very stable and rigid. It includes a built-in acoustic underlay to reduce noise, uses a Valinge 5G click system for easy installation, and has a Polyurethane Reinforcement (PUR) coating for enhanced durability and easy maintenance. It comes in various realistic wood and stone designs.
Is Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core flooring waterproof?
Yes, Camaro Rigid Core is 100% waterproof. Its SPC core does not swell or warp when exposed to moisture, making it an excellent choice for areas like kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, and basements where spills and humidity are common.
Can I install Camaro Rigid Core over underfloor heating?
Yes, Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core is generally suitable for installation over water-piped underfloor heating systems. However, the surface temperature must not exceed 27°C. It's crucial to follow Polyflor's specific guidelines regarding installation over underfloor heating, including acclimatisation and gradual temperature increase.
Does Camaro Rigid Core require a separate underlay?
No, one of the key benefits of Camaro Rigid Core is its integrated acoustic underlay. This built-in layer provides sound reduction (up to 18dB) and adds underfoot comfort, eliminating the need and cost of purchasing and installing a separate underlay during the floating installation process.
How should I clean and maintain Camaro Rigid Core flooring?
Cleaning is straightforward thanks to the PUR coating. Regular sweeping or vacuuming (using a hard floor setting) removes dust and grit. For deeper cleaning, damp mop using a pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner diluted according to instructions. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, wax polishes, or steam cleaners.
