Wood Effect Plank LVT
Wood-effect plank LVT is the workhorse of the luxury vinyl category — long, straight-edged planks printed and embossed to look like real wood, sold in every wood species, every tone and every shade most homes will ever need. It is the format you specify when you want the look of a real wood floor in a room where real wood is not the right answer: kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, anywhere with underfloor heating, and any project where waterproof performance, day-to-day toughness and a wider price ladder than real wood are part of the brief.
At Grosvenor Flooring we cover the wood-effect plank LVT category with the full design libraries of Amtico, Karndean, Invictus, Nordikka, Project Floors Wood Plank Collection and our own-brand GF LVT.
What Is Wood Effect Plank LVT?
Wood-effect plank LVT is a luxury vinyl tile cut to a long-format plank — typically 1200mm to 1500mm long and 180mm to 230mm wide — and printed at high resolution with a real wood visual taken from oak, walnut, ash, pine or one of the more characterful species. The print is registered to a deeply embossed surface so the texture lines up with the grain, finished with a clear PU wear layer typically 0.3mm to 1mm thick. Sold either as glue down dryback planks or as rigid-core click planks depending on the range and the project.

Plank LVT vs Engineered Wood Plank
If the room is dry, the budget will stretch and the look matters more than the performance, real engineered wood plank is hard to beat. If the room is wet, the project includes underfloor heating, the family is hard on floors or the budget needs to flex, wood-effect plank LVT is the better answer.
Where to Use Wood Effect Plank LVT
Wood plank LVT works in every room of the house — kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, lounges, dining rooms, bedrooms, conservatories, utility rooms and home offices.
Underfloor Heating
All ranges are compatible with both wet and electric UFH up to a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. Glue-down installs deliver the strongest UFH performance — see glue down LVT.
Installation Notes
Long-format planks are unforgiving on subfloor undulations — the longer the plank, the more obvious any dip becomes. Subfloor preparation is the single biggest determinant of how a wood plank LVT floor will look once it is down. Use an experienced fitter. Our own teams handle wood plank LVT installs across Cheshire and South Manchester from the Altrincham showroom.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is wood effect LVT waterproof?
Yes, wood effect LVT is highly water-resistant and is considered a waterproof flooring solution. Its synthetic composition prevents water from penetrating the core, making it an excellent choice for moisture-prone areas like bathrooms, kitchens, and basements where real wood flooring is not recommended.
Does wood effect LVT scratch easily?
No, the durability of LVT is one of its key features. The top wear layer provides excellent resistance to scratches and scuffs from daily foot traffic, furniture, and pets. For the best protection in high-traffic areas, we recommend choosing a product with a thicker wear layer (e.g., 0.4mm or 0.55mm).
How does wood effect LVT compare to real engineered wood flooring?
While engineered wood has a real wood veneer, LVT is a synthetic product. LVT is generally more durable, water-resistant, and easier to maintain. It is also softer and quieter underfoot and typically more affordable. Engineered wood offers the unmistakable texture and uniqueness of real wood, but it is more susceptible to moisture damage and scratches.
