11mm Engineered Wood Flooring
11mm engineered wood is a sensible middle ground in the slim-profile bracket — thicker than 9mm or 10mm, with a slightly more substantial oak wear layer, but still slim enough to handle most retrofit projects without creating problems at thresholds and door clearances. It is the format we recommend when build-up height is a soft constraint rather than a hard one.
11mm is offered selectively across both GF by Grosvenor Flooring and V4 Wood Flooring.
When to Specify 11mm
11mm gives you a marginally thicker wear layer than 9mm or 10mm while keeping the overall floor build-up well under most threshold limits. If you can afford the additional height, 14mm or 15mm remains the more common premium specification.
Construction & UFH

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 11mm engineered wood and solid wood flooring?
The main difference is the construction. Solid wood is a single piece of timber, while engineered wood has a real wood top layer glued to a stable core. This construction makes engineered wood more resistant to moisture and temperature changes, making it suitable for more locations and for use with underfloor heating.
Can 11mm engineered wood flooring be sanded and refinished?
Yes, it can. The number of times it can be sanded and refinished depends on the thickness of the top real wood veneer layer. For most 11mm boards, the top layer is thick enough to allow for at least one or two refinishings over its lifespan, restoring its original beauty.
Is 11mm engineered wood flooring suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes, it is an excellent choice for underfloor heating systems. The multi-layer construction provides excellent stability and heat transfer, making it a reliable and efficient option for a warm and comfortable home.
