Fixed Length vs Random Length
Plank floors come in two pack formats. Fixed length packs contain boards of one length only — the floor reads as more uniform, the seam pattern is predictable and the format suits modern, minimalist interiors. Random length packs contain a mix of board lengths — the floor reads as more natural and traditional, and is the default for most premium oak ranges. Neither is better; the right choice depends on the look you want and the rest of the scheme.
Construction
Same as any engineered wood floor: a multi-ply core for dimensional stability, topped with a real European oak wear layer typically 3mm to 6mm thick. Compatible with underfloor heating, refinishable years down the line.

Fixed-length boards all arrive at the same length, giving a uniform, repeating rhythm once laid — ideal for formal rooms and symmetrical layouts. Random-length boards ship in mixed lengths within one pack and create a more organic, traditional look closer to a period floorboard.
Does a fixed-length floor produce more waste than random-length?
Usually a touch more. Because every board is the same length, offcuts at walls can't always be used as the start of the next row. We recommend ordering 10% extra on fixed-length projects (versus 7–8% on random) to cover cuts and future repairs.
What room styles suit fixed-length planks best?
Fixed-length works particularly well in modern apartments, show-home interiors, and open-plan spaces where you want a clean, architectural feel. Pair with longer boards (1800mm+) for the most contemporary result.
