What is Karndean Knight Tile?
Knight Tile is one of Karndean’s longest-established residential LVT collections, and the glue-down format is the original — the version Knight Tile was built on before the rigid core click variant was introduced. It is a thin, flexible LVT product that is bonded directly to a fully prepared subfloor using Karndean’s approved adhesives, producing a flat, stable finish that integrates seamlessly with skirtings, thresholds and adjoining materials.
Knight Tile is Karndean’s accessible entry point into the brand: it delivers the Karndean design language and build quality at a price that works for whole-home projects, and it has been specified in thousands of UK homes over the years. It is an especially common choice where customers want a proper glue-down Karndean floor without stepping up to the thicker wear layer and premium formats of Art Select.
Where Can Knight Tile Be Used?
Knight Tile is suitable for all residential rooms — kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, hallways, living rooms and bedrooms. Glue-down LVT performs well in wet areas when installed with the correct adhesives and perimeter detailing, and the flat, fully bonded finish is well suited to open-plan spaces where you want a clean, continuous floor across multiple rooms.
Because Knight Tile is glue-down, subfloor preparation is more demanding than for rigid core click ranges. The substrate must be fully level, smooth, clean and dry before installation. For renovation projects or fit-overs where full subfloor preparation is impractical, Karndean Knight Tile Rigid Core is the click-format equivalent.
Knight Tile Design Range
Knight Tile covers a wide design palette across wood and stone effects. Wood designs range from pale limed oaks through to warmer mid-tones and deeper, darker plank finishes — the sort of all-rounder colours that work across most interior styles without dating quickly. Stone and ceramic designs extend the range into kitchens, bathrooms and entrance halls where a wood look is not the right fit.
Surface textures on Knight Tile follow the grain or pattern of each design, giving a realistic underfoot impression that belies the range’s entry-level positioning. The glue-down format also keeps the overall floor build-up thin, which can matter at doorway thresholds and in renovation projects where floor height is constrained.
Knight Tile Warranty and Installation
Karndean Knight Tile is supplied with a residential warranty when installed by a Karndean Approved Retailer using the correct adhesives, underlays and methods. Subfloor preparation is critical — the substrate must be smooth, fully level, clean and dry before installation. Any irregularity or residual moisture will affect the long-term performance and appearance of a glue-down LVT product, so this stage should never be rushed.
The range is fully compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating systems, subject to a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. Always follow Karndean’s specific guidance for installing Knight Tile over underfloor heating, particularly around warm-up procedures and adhesive selection.
How Knight Tile Compares to the Rest of the Range
- Knight Tile (glue-down) vs Knight Tile Rigid Core: Same design DNA, different installation method. Glue-down Knight Tile gives you the flattest, most bonded finish and lower floor build-up; Knight Tile Rigid Core adds a pre-attached acoustic underlay, click installation and waterproof SPC core for renovation-friendly fitting.
- Knight Tile vs Van Gogh: Van Gogh steps up to a thicker wear layer, a longer warranty and a more design-led plank range including herringbone. If you have a higher-traffic home or want the herringbone finish, Van Gogh is the stronger choice.
- Knight Tile vs Art Select: Art Select is Karndean’s premium glue-down tier with a significantly thicker wear layer and larger plank and parquet formats. Art Select is the choice for statement floors; Knight Tile is the sensible whole-home all-rounder.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I create patterns like LVT herringbone with Knight Tile Gluedown?
Yes, the Karndean Knight Tile Gluedown format is specifically designed to allow for custom laying patterns, including popular choices like herringbone, chevron, or basketweave, as well as the incorporation of decorative borders and feature strips for a truly bespoke LVT floor.
Why is subfloor preparation so important for Gluedown LVT?
A perfectly smooth, level, hard, clean, and dry subfloor is critical for gluedown luxury vinyl tiles. Any imperfections can 'telegraph' through the LVT over time, affecting the final appearance. Professional floor fitters will ensure the subfloor meets the required standard, often using a smoothing compound.
Is Karndean Knight Tile LVT suitable for commercial use?
Knight Tile typically features a 0.3mm wear layer, primarily intended for residential applications. While it offers good durability for homes, it's generally recommended only for very light commercial areas. For standard commercial use, Karndean ranges with a 0.55mm or 0.7mm wear layer (like Opus or Art Select) are advised.
Is installing Gluedown LVT messy or difficult?
Gluedown LVT installation is more complex and potentially messier than click LVT systems due to the use of adhesives and the critical need for subfloor preparation. It requires skill and precision, which is why professional installation by experienced floor fitters is strongly recommended for achieving the best finish and ensuring longevity.
