Finding a Karndean Approved Retailer
If you have been researching Karndean flooring, you will have come across the phrase “Karndean Approved Retailer” on showroom websites and product pages. It is not just a marketing label. Karndean’s manufacturer warranties are directly tied to buying from and being installed by an approved retailer — and understanding what that means before you commit can save you significant problems down the line.
Grosvenor Flooring is a Karndean Approved Retailer. We stock the complete Karndean range, supply nationwide and offer supply and fit for customers in Altrincham, Manchester and Cheshire. This guide explains what the approval actually means, why it matters, what it protects and what you should check before placing an order with any Karndean retailer.
What Does “Karndean Approved Retailer” Mean?
A Karndean Approved Retailer is a flooring business that has been formally authorised by Karndean Designflooring to supply and install their products. The approval is not automatic — it requires the retailer to meet Karndean’s standards for product knowledge, showroom presentation, installation competence and customer service. In practice, this means the retailer’s fitting teams are trained on Karndean-specific installation methods, adhesives and subfloor preparation requirements.
The approval covers both supply (selling the product) and installation (fitting it correctly). Some retailers are approved for supply only, while others hold full approval for supply and fit. At Grosvenor Flooring, we hold full approval for both — meaning we can supply Karndean to customers nationwide and fit it professionally for customers in the North West.
Why the Warranty Depends on It
This is the part that catches people out. Karndean’s manufacturer warranties are conditional on professional installation by an approved retailer using approved methods and materials. If you buy Karndean from a non-approved source or have it fitted by someone outside the approved network, the warranty may be void from day one — regardless of how well the floor looks when it goes down.
This is not a technicality that rarely gets enforced. Karndean ties warranty validation to the installation record held by the approved retailer. If a defect or wear issue arises and there is no approved installation on file, the claim is likely to be rejected.
The warranty structure across the Karndean range:
| Range | Format | Wear Layer | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Knight Tile | Glue-down LVT | 0.3mm | Residential warranty |
| Knight Tile Rigid Core | SPC rigid core click | 0.3mm | Residential warranty |
| Van Gogh | Glue-down LVT | 0.55mm | Residential warranty |
| Van Gogh Rigid Core | SPC rigid core click | 0.55mm | 20-year residential |
| Art Select | Glue-down LVT | 0.7mm | Enhanced residential |
| Palio Essenza | Glue-down LVT | 0.3mm | Residential warranty |
At the Art Select level, you are investing in Karndean’s premium collection with an enhanced warranty. Losing that warranty by buying from the wrong retailer is an expensive mistake — one that only becomes apparent when something goes wrong and there is no installation record to support a claim.
What Should You Check Before Buying?
Before committing to any Karndean retailer, these are the questions worth asking:
- Are you a Karndean Approved Retailer? Not all flooring shops that stock Karndean are formally approved. Some are resellers or secondary stockists who do not hold approved status. If in doubt, ask to see the approval or check with Karndean directly.
- Will you be fitting the floor, or am I arranging my own fitter? If you arrange your own installation, confirm whether the warranty will still be valid. In most cases, the fitter needs to be working under an approved retailer’s supervision for the warranty to hold.
- Which adhesives and preparation methods will you use? Karndean specifies particular adhesives and subfloor preparation standards. An approved retailer will use these as standard — a non-approved fitter may not.
- Do you stock the full range? Some smaller retailers only carry selected Karndean collections. If you want to compare Knight Tile, Van Gogh and Art Select side by side, check that the retailer has all ranges available to view — ideally at full scale, not just in sample books.
