Engineered Wood Flooring for Lounges

The lounge is the room where a real wood floor earns its place — the surface you see most often, walk on most casually, and want to age gracefully for the long term. Engineered wood is the right specification: a multi-ply core for stability through central heating and UFH, a real oak wear layer that can be sanded and re-finished if life ever leaves a mark on it, and the same look and feel as a solid oak floor.

At Grosvenor Flooring we recommend two collections for lounge projects. GF by Grosvenor Flooring is our own-brand oak range — premium spec, sharp pricing, full online checkout, free samples. V4 Wood Flooring is the design-led British brand with the broadest format library on the market — particularly good for whole-house projects where the lounge floor flows into the rest of the ground floor.

Choosing the Right Format for a Lounge

Wide-board plank is the default and the most versatile choice — calm, contemporary, and the natural fit for open-plan living spaces. Herringbone works particularly well in formal lounges where the floor is treated as a feature, and chevron is the sharper, more architectural alternative.

Choosing the Right Finish for a Lounge

Lounges are lower-traffic than kitchens or hallways, which means oiled finishes are a more realistic choice — the softer, more natural look without the day-to-day wear that oils can struggle with in busier rooms. For very high-traffic households, lacquered remains the easier daily call.

Underfloor Heating

All lounge ranges we stock are UFH compatible (max 27°C). Acclimatise the boards in the room for at least 48 hours before installation.

Other Rooms in the House

If you are buying for the whole ground floor: kitchen, dining room, hallway, bedroom, conservatory or home office.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is engineered wood a good choice for a busy living room?

Yes, engineered wood is an excellent choice for a busy living room. Its layered construction makes it more stable and durable than solid wood, and it can withstand the daily wear and tear of a family living space. Choosing a product with a high-quality, hard-wearing finish will further enhance its resilience.

How do I maintain my engineered wood floor in the lounge?

Maintaining your engineered wood floor is simple. Regular sweeping or vacuuming with a soft brush will keep it free of dirt and dust. For occasional cleaning, a damp mop with a cleaning product recommended by the manufacturer will suffice. It is important to avoid using excessive water or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.

Can engineered wood be sanded and refinished if it gets damaged?

Yes, one of the key benefits of engineered wood is that it can be sanded and refinished to restore its appearance. The number of times it can be done depends on the thickness of the real wood top layer. A thicker wear layer, like those on high-quality products from brands such as V4 and Kahrs, can be sanded several times, giving the floor a very long lifespan.
