2.5mm Thick Luxury Vinyl Flooring
2.5mm is the Amtico dryback sweet spot. It is the thickness Amtico’s three core dryback ranges — Spacia, Signature and Form — all ship at, stepping up through the wear-layer ladder from the 0.3mm entry spec on Spacia to the 1.0mm flagship on Signature. 2.5mm is the format designers and homeowners pick when they want full Amtico design language on a true glue-down profile, with the wear-layer choice controlling the durability tier.
Like all dryback formats, 2.5mm cannot retrofit over an existing floor — it is bonded directly to a level screed or concrete with a flooring-grade adhesive. The thin profile means minimal height gain and clean transitions into adjacent rooms. What Does 2.5mm Thickness Actually Mean?
2.5mm (2.5 millimetre) is the total board thickness from the bottom of the dryback backing to the top of the wear layer. It is 0.5mm thicker than the 2mm entry format — enough for Amtico to bond a heavier wear layer without pushing the profile into rigid-core territory. The construction is a printed design layer and clear PVC wear layer bonded to a closed-cell PVC dryback backing with factory-applied adhesive.
2.5mm in the Thickness Ladder
2.5mm sits in the middle of the glue-down dryback spectrum. Below it is 2mm (Karndean Knight Tile and Amtico First, the mid-market entry point). Above it is 3mm, where the Karndean premium dryback ranges (Van Gogh and Art Select) live. 2.5mm is exclusively the Amtico dryback zone — it is where Amtico’s full residential design library lands, with the wear-layer step-up across Spacia, Form and Signature controlling the durability tier.

Installation Format: Glue-Down Only
2.5mm is glue down and glue down only — there is no click-lock variant at this thickness. The planks and tiles are bonded directly to a prepared, level subfloor using a flooring-grade adhesive recommended by Amtico. Installation requires a flat, clean, dry screed or concrete. On new-build properties and level existing subfloors, 2.5mm installs trouble-free; on uneven floors you will need self-levelling compound or a new screed before fitting.
Underfloor Heating Compatibility
2.5mm glue-down is fully compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating systems up to 27°C surface temperature, provided the manufacturer’s installation guide is followed and the boxes are left to acclimatise in the room for 48 hours before fitting. Glue down is the installer’s preferred format for UFH because the continuous adhesive bond transfers heat efficiently and avoids the insulation layer you get with floating click-lock floors.
Thickness Does Not Determine Durability — Wear Layer Does
This is the most important sentence on the page: **thickness and durability are not the same thing.** The three Amtico ranges at 2.5mm are all the same total thickness — 2.5mm — but their durability varies enormously because their wear layers do. Spacia at 0.3mm is built for normal domestic use. Form at 0.7mm is built for heavier domestic traffic. Signature at 1.0mm is built for the hardest residential wear in the dryback category. Same thickness, three different durability tiers — because durability comes from the wear layer, not the board height. If durability is your question, compare wear-layer specs first. See our 1mm wear layer guide for the Signature spec, or the 0.7mm wear layer guide for Form.
