What is GF Engineered Wood Planks?
GF Planks is our own-label wide-board engineered oak collection: long, wide oak planks built on a multi-ply core with a real European oak wear layer. We source and finish it direct from European mills and sell it under our own label, so you get premium wide-plank oak at a lower price than the brand-name ranges.
What is the difference between a wide plank and herringbone?
A wide plank reads as calm and contemporary and lets the floor recede into a scheme, which suits larger rooms, open-plan layouts and whole-house projects. Herringbone is decorative and designer-led with the pattern doing the visual work, so it tends to go where the floor is on show. Both use the same GF European oak. Our GF Herringbone collection covers the pattern option.
Are wide plank floors good for underfloor heating?
Yes. GF Planks work with both wet and electric underfloor heating up to a maximum surface temperature of 27C. Acclimatise the boards for at least 48 hours before fitting and follow the supplied installation instructions to keep the floor stable and the warranty intact.
How are GF plank floors installed?
Wide planks are the most forgiving engineered format to lay for a competent fitter with fewer cuts per square metre than herringbone. We recommend a glued or secret-nailed installation over a properly prepared subfloor. In the North West we offer supply and fit through a regular team of fitters we know and trust.
What finishes and colours does GF Planks come in?
The collection spans natural, oiled, lacquered, brushed, smoked and white-washed oak, covering light, natural, grey and dark tones. Every floor is named after a Cheshire or South Manchester village and you can order up to five free samples to compare the tones in your own light.
Which rooms suit wide plank flooring?
Wide planks suit lounges, kitchens, dining rooms, hallways and bedrooms and they are the natural choice for whole-house projects where one floor flows through several rooms. Like all engineered wood they are not suitable for bathrooms or wet rooms.
How is GF Planks cheaper than brand-name plank flooring?
Because it is our own label. We work directly with the European mills, control the specification and sell without the brand and retailer margin that sits on top of the big-name ranges. The oak grade, wear layer and finish are directly comparable to floors that cost significantly more elsewhere.
