Kitchen LVT Flooring

The kitchen is the single most popular room we sell luxury vinyl flooring into, and for good reason. It is the room where every flooring vulnerability gets stress-tested at once — water from the sink and dishwasher, heat from the oven and underfloor heating, point loads from kitchen island legs, dropped saucepans, dragged stools, dog bowls, and the highest foot traffic in the house. LVT is the only finish that handles all of those at once without compromise. It is fully waterproof, UFH-compatible, dimensionally stable, hard enough to take a dropped pan without indenting, and warm enough underfoot to be comfortable barefoot. Stone tiles are colder, more brittle and need full-tile replacement on a chip. Engineered wood will mark from water around the dishwasher within five years. Laminate is a non-starter in a kitchen. Glue-down LVT is the answer.

If you are also searching for “commercial kitchen lino flooring”, LVT is the modern replacement for old-style commercial lino — same waterproofing, much better warranty, much better looking. What Makes a Kitchen Hard on a Floor

Four things at once. Moisture from the sink, dishwasher, fridge defrost and washing-up splashes. Heat from the oven door, underfloor heating, and direct sunlight through bifold doors. Point loads from kitchen island legs, bar stools, fridge wheels and dropped pans. Continuous foot traffic — most family kitchens see more daily footfall than the front hallway. A kitchen floor has to do all four jobs perfectly for 15 to 20 years and still look like a premium finish at the end of it. That rules out most flooring categories on day one. The shortlist is: real stone, porcelain tile, or LVT. LVT wins on warmth, comfort, repairability and price-per-square-metre against the other two, and it ties without compromise on waterproofing.

Wear Layer — 0.55mm or 0.7mm for Family Kitchens

For a normal family kitchen we recommend stepping up from the standard 0.3mm spec to either 0.55mm or 0.7mm. The kitchen sees more wear per square metre than any other room in the house and the cost difference is small. 0.55mm is the right answer for most premium family homes — Karndean Art Select, Karndean Van Gogh and Amtico Form all sit here with 25-year domestic warranties. 0.7mm is right if the kitchen is also the main route to the back garden, the dog’s exit door, or the hub of a large family with school-age children. For full commercial kitchen environments — restaurants, cafes, holiday lets — step up again to 1mm with Amtico Signature or Invictus Maximus.

Install Format — Glue Down by Default

For a kitchen we specify glue down LVT by default. Glue down handles the moisture exposure (no perimeter expansion gap for water to creep into), the point loads (no floating raft to flex under a heavy island), and the underfloor heating (continuous adhesive bond transfers heat efficiently). Click LVT is only the right answer if you are retrofitting over an existing floor that cannot be lifted — and even then, the perimeter has to be sealed to commercial standard around every wet point. Push back on any installer who suggests floating click LVT in a wet kitchen as the default.

The Kitchen Ranges We Stock

Karndean Art Select and Karndean Van Gogh — Karndean’s two flagship glue-down ranges, both at 0.55mm wear layer. Van Gogh’s wider longer plank format is currently the most-specified premium kitchen LVT in Britain.

Amtico Signature — Amtico’s flagship glue-down with the full design library and a 1mm wear layer. Specified by designers on the highest-end family kitchens and on light commercial work.

Amtico Form — Amtico’s parquet and herringbone glue-down range at 0.55mm. The right answer if you want a feature herringbone in the kitchen running through to a hallway.

Amtico Spacia and Karndean Knight Tile — the 0.3mm wear layer entry points to both flagship brands, suitable for normal-traffic family kitchens on a tighter budget.

Invictus Maximus — heavy-spec European glue-down with a 0.7mm wear layer. The right answer for kitchens that take commercial-level traffic in a domestic setting.

Project Floors Wood Plank Collection — German contract-grade glue down. Specified on commercial kitchen fit-outs and high-end domestic.

GF LVT — our own-brand glue down. Premium European spec, sharp pricing, full online checkout and free samples.

Underfloor Heating

Glue down LVT is the format underfloor heating manufacturers themselves recommend for kitchens. The continuous adhesive bond transfers heat efficiently with no air-gap insulation problem, and every range above is compatible with both wet and electric UFH up to a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. Acclimatise the boxes in the room for at least 48 hours before fitting and follow the manufacturer’s commissioning sequence.

Continuous-Floor Story — Kitchen, Hallway, Utility, Dining

The most expensive-looking kitchen specification is the same plank running continuously into the hallway, utility room and dining room with no threshold strips. Pick the wear layer for the kitchen (the hardest room) and run it through. LVT is the only flooring product that lets you do this without any compromise on the individual rooms.

Subfloor and Install Notes

Glue-down LVT is unforgiving on subfloor preparation — the floor must be flat, clean, dry and primed before any adhesive goes down. Any imperfection telegraphs through to the surface within months. For this reason it is the format we strongly recommend using a professional fitter for. Our own teams handle subfloor prep, levelling, install and finishing on every supply-and-fit kitchen project across Cheshire and South Manchester.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LVT waterproof for a kitchen?

Yes, LVT is inherently waterproof, which makes it a perfect choice for kitchens. The surface of the tiles will not be damaged by water. When installed correctly, the planks and tiles create a tight, seamless barrier that prevents spills from reaching the subfloor, protecting your home from water damage.

How does LVT compare to real wood in a kitchen?

LVT is a far more practical choice for a kitchen. It is waterproof and highly resistant to scratches and stains, whereas real wood is vulnerable to water damage, warping, and requires careful maintenance. LVT offers the beautiful look of wood without any of the associated drawbacks.

Will dropping heavy items damage my kitchen LVT?

High-quality LVT with a thick wear layer is highly durable and resistant to impact. While a very heavy or sharp object could cause damage, LVT is generally much more forgiving than ceramic or stone tiles, which can chip or crack. In the event of damage, individual LVT planks or tiles can often be replaced, making repairs straightforward.
