GF Engineered Wood Flooring
GF by Grosvenor Flooring is our own engineered oak collection — designed in-house, sourced direct from established European mills, and named after the Cheshire and South Manchester villages on our doorstep. We launched the range to give our customers a genuinely premium engineered wood floor at a sharper price than the better-known UK heavyweights, without compromising on the things that actually matter: oak grade, wear-layer thickness, finish quality and dimensional stability.
The GF Engineered Wood collection is offered in three formats — Herringbone, Planks and Versailles Pattern. Every floor is buy-online with full pricing displayed, and we offer up to 5 free samples on every order so you can compare colours and finishes properly at home before you commit.
If you would like to see and walk on the range in person, the entire collection is laid out on full-size display in our Altrincham showroom. For nationwide customers, samples are posted free and our team is on hand by phone, WhatsApp or our contact form to talk through specifications.
About GF by Grosvenor Flooring
GF is the in-house label developed by Grosvenor Flooring after twenty-plus years of selling engineered wood across the major UK premium brands. We saw two consistent things in the market: customers were paying a heavy brand premium on floors that came out of the same European mills as much cheaper alternatives, and there was very little choice in the middle ground for buyers who wanted a properly specified oak floor — wide boards, thick wear layer, hand-finished surfaces — without crossing into £100/m² territory. GF is our answer to both. We work directly with the mills, we control the spec sheet, and we name the colours after the Cheshire and South Manchester villages we have been fitting floors in for two decades.
Every GF Engineered Wood floor is built on a multi-ply birch or pine core for dimensional stability, topped with a real European oak wear layer, and finished in our chosen oils and lacquers. The range is suitable for use over underfloor heating, and is supplied with installation and aftercare guidance written by our own fitting teams.
The GF Engineered Wood Collection
The collection is organised by format. Within each format, individual floors are named after Cheshire and South Manchester villages — Alderley, Tatton, Bowdon, Hale, Tarporley, Tabley, Peckforton and so on — so you can pick a floor whose name means something locally as well as one that simply suits the room.
GF Engineered Wood Herringbone — our largest sub-collection. Classic small-format herringbone blocks in a wide range of European oak tones, from soft natural through smoked, brushed and limed finishes. Designs include Alderley Oak, Farndon Oak, Ridley Oak, Bickerton Oak, Tabley Oak and many more. Best for kitchens, hallways, dining rooms and open-plan ground floors where the pattern adds a designer-led finish without overwhelming the space.
GF Engineered Wood Planks — wide, long, multi-ply oak planks for whole-house projects. Designs include Bollington Oak, Eccleston Oak, Tatton Oak, Bowdon Oak, Cholmondeley Oak and Tattenhall Oak. Best for buyers who want a calm, contemporary oak floor in larger rooms and open-plan layouts, where the wider board reads as more relaxed and modern than herringbone.
GF Engineered Wood Versailles Pattern — large-format Versailles parquet panels for period properties, statement rooms and traditional interiors. Designs include Rookery Oak, Peckforton Oak, Utkinton Oak, Dorfold Oak, Oulton Oak and Belgrave Oak. Best where you want a heritage-led, decorative floor with the visual weight of a large parquet panel.

Why Buy GF by Grosvenor Flooring?
Most customers who come to GF have already shopped a few of the brand-name engineered wood ranges — Ted Todd, Woodpecker, Kahrs, V4 — and want to understand whether the GF range really offers comparable quality at a sharper price. Our honest answer: yes, on the floors we have chosen to put under the GF label. We do not try to compete on every spec point with every premium range, but on the boards we sell, the oak grade, wear layer and finish are directly comparable to floors costing 30–40% more elsewhere. Much of what you save with GF is the brand premium that comes with selling through hundreds of retailers and a national marketing budget.
Because GF is our own range, you also get full online checkout, transparent pricing, our free sample service (up to 5 samples per order, posted free) and direct support from our team — not a call centre. If you would rather see how we compare directly, our blog includes side-by-side comparisons against Ted Todd and Woodpecker.

Where Can GF Engineered Wood Be Used?
GF Engineered Wood is suitable throughout the home — including kitchens, hallways, lounges, dining rooms, bedrooms and conservatories. As with all engineered wood, it should not be installed in bathrooms or wet rooms; for those areas, see our luxury vinyl flooring or GF LVT ranges.
GF Engineered Wood and Underfloor Heating
All GF Engineered Wood floors are compatible with both wet and electric underfloor heating systems, subject to a maximum surface temperature of 27°C and standard installation guidelines. Acclimatise the boards in the room for at least 48 hours before fitting, and follow the supplied installation instructions to maintain dimensional stability and warranty cover.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can engineered wood be installed over underfloor heating?
Yes, engineered wood is specifically designed to be compatible with underfloor heating. Its multi-layer construction allows it to handle temperature changes far better than solid wood.
How many times can engineered wood be sanded?
This depends on the thickness of the real wood wear layer (lamella). Typically, a floor with a 4mm wear layer can be sanded 2 to 3 times over its lifespan, providing decades of use.
What is the difference between oiled and lacquered finishes?
Lacquered finishes provide a hard, protective coat on top of the wood, making it more resistant to liquids. Oiled finishes penetrate the wood for a more natural look and are easier to repair if a small area gets scratched.
Is engineered wood real wood?
Yes, the top layer is 100% natural hardwood (such as Oak or Walnut). The layers underneath are also wood-based, typically plywood or HDF, arranged in a cross-grain structure for stability.
How do I clean engineered wood flooring?
You should sweep or vacuum regularly with a soft brush attachment. For mopping, use a well-wrung damp mop and a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner; never use a steam mop or saturated cloths.
