Ted Todd’s signature is a 2-ply construction: a thick hardwood top layer bonded directly to a birch plywood base. On the flagship Classic Futures® and Warehouse premium builds, that means a 20mm board with a 6mm European oak wear layer — as close as engineered wood gets to the refinishing life of solid timber. Mid-range collections like Create® sit at 15mm / 3mm in a 3-ply build, and the Project range offers both 3–4mm mid-tier and a 20/6 extra-wide option. Across eight collections, Ted Todd covers every construction tier from design-system lightweight to genuine heirloom-grade oak.

GF Engineered Wood covers a wider construction spread across fewer collections. GF herringbone runs from 10mm / 3mm at £39.99/m² through 14mm / 3mm and 15mm / 4mm mid-range tiers up to 20mm / 6mm premium blocks at £59.99/m². GF planks follow the same structure: 14mm / 3mm from £39.99/m² through to 20mm / 6mm ultra-wide boards at £69.99/m². All European oak, multi-ply core, tongue and groove, 25-year guarantee, underfloor-heating compatible.

Formats and range coverage

Ted Todd offers plank, herringbone, chevron, and Parquet de Versailles across its eight engineered collections. The range is organised by aesthetic theme — Classic Futures® for heritage oak, Residence® for bevel-free contemporary, Deco for walnut and mixed formats, Warehouse for aged character, Create® for modular design flexibility, Crafted Textures for surface treatments, Specialist Woods for exotic species, and Unfinished Oaks for site-finished projects. GF covers three formats: herringbone (29 designs across six construction tiers), planks (25 designs across six tiers), and Versailles parquet panels (6 designs at £79.99/m²). The approach is different — instead of eight themed collections, GF offers one curated range where you choose by format, construction tier, and finish. Product names reference Cheshire and South Manchester villages: Prestbury, Hale, Dunham, Tatton Park, Westminster Park.

At the premium end, GF’s 20mm / 6mm builds match Ted Todd’s top-tier construction at 40–50% less per square metre. Across a 40m² room, that difference can run to well over a thousand pounds.

GF also offers prefinished Versailles parquet panels at £79.99/m² — a format Ted Todd offers only as unfinished oak within the Unfinished Oaks range. For period properties where a traditional Versailles pattern is the brief, GF delivers it ready to install.
