Frequently Asked Questions

How durable is laminate flooring?

Laminate durability is measured by the AC rating. AC3 suits general domestic use, AC4 covers heavy domestic and light commercial use and AC5 is built for heavy commercial traffic. For a busy family home, AC4 is the sensible target. Many quality ranges, including Quick-Step, also add a reinforced wear layer such as Scratch Guard for extra resistance to scratches and scuffs.

Can laminate flooring be installed over underfloor heating?

Yes. Most modern laminate, including the full Quick-Step range, is compatible with water-based and electric underfloor heating, subject to a maximum surface temperature of 27 degreesC. Use an underlay with suitable thermal resistance so heat transfers efficiently and bring the system up to temperature gradually after installation to keep the warranty valid.

Is laminate flooring waterproof?

Standard laminate is water-resistant rather than fully waterproof. Modern water-repellent ranges have closed much of that gap: every current Quick-Step laminate range we stock features HydroSeal, a coating on the surface and bevels that stops water reaching the joints, which makes those ranges suitable for kitchens and bathrooms when installed and perimeter-sealed correctly. No laminate is suitable for a wet room or prolonged standing water.

How should I clean and maintain my laminate floor?

Laminate is low-maintenance. Sweep or vacuum with a hard-floor or soft-brush attachment to lift grit, then damp-mop with a well-wrung mop and a pH-neutral laminate cleaner when needed. Avoid steam mops, abrasive or wax-based cleaners and standing water. Felt pads under furniture and a doormat at entrances keep the floor looking new for years.
