What is click LVT (rigid core or SPC)?
Click LVT is a luxury vinyl plank built on a rigid stone plastic composite (SPC) core with a click-lock edge, so boards lock together mechanically without glue. It is laid as a floating floor over a thin, often pre-attached, acoustic underlay with a small expansion gap around the perimeter.
How thick is click LVT?
The click ranges we stock run from around 4mm to 6.5mm total with a wear layer of 0.3mm to 0.55mm. For example, Karndean Knight Tile Rigid Core is 4.5mm with a 0.3mm wear layer, while Amtico Click Smart and Karndean Van Gogh Rigid Core are 6mm and 6.5mm with a 0.55mm wear layer.
Can I install click LVT myself?
Click LVT is the most DIY-friendly LVT format because the boards click together over an underlay without adhesive. A professional fit still gives a tighter, flatter and longer-lasting floor, especially around door frames, kitchen units and pipework and our teams fit click floors across Cheshire and South Manchester.
Is Click LVT a good option for kitchens and bathrooms?
Click LVT can be used in kitchens and utility rooms as long as the range you choose is rated for those rooms, since not all click cores are. For bathrooms and conservatories we usually recommend glue-down instead, because a bonded, sealed floor removes the floating joints and expansion gap.
What happens if a plank gets damaged in a Click LVT floor?
Because a click floor is floating rather than bonded, a damaged plank can be replaced by unclicking the boards back to the affected area and clicking a new plank in. It is more involved than swapping a single glued tile, but it avoids lifting the whole floor.
Is Click LVT better than Glue Down LVT?
Neither is better outright; they suit different projects. Click is best for retrofits, rentals, upper floors and fast or DIY installs. Glue-down is best for new builds, kitchens, bathrooms and any project where dimensional stability and a completely flat, permanent finish matter, which is why designers usually specify it for premium work.
Is click LVT compatible with underfloor heating?
Yes. All the click ranges we stock work with wet and electric underfloor heating up to a maximum surface temperature of 27C. Heat-up times are slightly longer than glue-down because a little air sits between the underlay and the subfloor, but real-world performance is excellent. Acclimatise the boxes for at least 48 hours before fitting.
