Most white LVT is one of four routes: a white-washed oak (oak grain visible through a thin white pigment), a limed oak or ash (cooler and paler with a whitened grain), a bleached or driftwood pine (warm undertones, near-white surface), or a white limestone or marble effect in a stone tile format. Each reads as white in a brochure but behaves very differently in a real room.

White oak LVT is the most popular type of white LVT. It is a white-washed or limed oak, where a white pigment sits over a visible oak grain, giving a pale but warm and natural floor rather than a flat pure white. White LVT resists staining as well as any other LVT because the wear layer is a sealed PVC film, but marks and dust are simply more visible against a pale surface. A thicker wear layer (0.55mm as a minimum) and a white-washed oak with visible grain, rather than a flat pure white, both help disguise everyday use.

A white floor needs cleaning a little more often because dust and footmarks show sooner, but LVT itself is very easy to clean with a sweep and a damp mop. Choosing a grained white-washed design over a flat brilliant white and a thicker wear layer, both make a white floor more forgiving day to day.

It can if you pair a cool white floor with cool white walls, which collapses the room visually. The fix is warmth and contrast: a warm white or putty wall with pale natural wood furniture for a Scandinavian look, or deep navy, forest or charcoal cabinets above a pale floor for a coastal or hotel feel.

We recommend a 0.55mm wear layer as a minimum for white and 0.7mm for a kitchen, hallway or any room with regular outdoor traffic. The thicker wear layer holds its appearance longer and is easier to spot-clean, which matters more on a pale floor than almost any other colour.
