A floor that looked right in a product photo can feel wrong underfoot in month two, a brand that won the marketing war of the last five years might not be the one you’d choose if you actually understood the specs, and an installation shortcut that saves a fitter two hours on Tuesday will cost you a warranty claim in year three.

Most flooring advice online falls into one of two categories: manufacturer marketing (which tells you what the brand wants you to hear) or affiliate content (which tells you whatever earns the writer a commission). Neither of those is written by someone who has to stand in front of you when the floor goes down and answer for the recommendation.

Everything in this section is written by the Grosvenor Flooring team — the same people who spec the projects, order the materials, and manage the fitters. When we say a 15mm / 4mm engineered board is enough for a family home with underfloor heating, it’s because we’ve fitted hundreds of them in exactly that situation. When we say a 0.3mm LVT wear layer isn’t enough for a hallway with dogs, it’s because we’ve seen what happens to them.

We’re not neutral — we’re a retailer with a showroom and a fitting team — but we are honest, and the advice we publish here is the same advice we’d give you face-to-face. If a branded floor is the right answer for your project, we’ll sell it to you. If our own-brand GF range does the same job at a lower price, we’ll tell you that too. The goal is a floor you’re happy with in year ten, not a sale we’re happy with this week.
