What is GF Engineered Wood Herringbone?
GF Herringbone is our own-label engineered oak parquet: small-format oak blocks laid in the classic herringbone pattern, built on a multi-ply core with a real European oak wear layer. We source and finish it direct from European mills and sell it under our own label, so you get the designer herringbone look at a lower price than the brand-name ranges.
Is engineered herringbone more expensive than a wide plank?
Usually a little, yes. Herringbone uses smaller blocks, which means more individual pieces, more milling and more handling than a straight plank and most brands price accordingly. GF Herringbone keeps that cost down by selling direct without a national brand premium. The GF Planks collection uses the same oak in wide-board format if you want to compare.
Can herringbone flooring go over underfloor heating?
Yes. GF Herringbone works with both wet and electric underfloor heating up to a maximum surface temperature of 27C. Acclimatise the blocks in the room for at least 48 hours before fitting and follow the supplied installation instructions.
Is herringbone harder to install than plank flooring?
It is more involved. The pattern is set out from the centre line of the room and the perimeter cuts need planning, so a mistake mid-floor is harder to recover from than with a plank. We recommend an experienced fitter for any herringbone project. In the North West we offer supply and fit through a regular team of fitters we know and trust.
What finishes and colours does GF Herringbone come in?
The collection spans natural, oiled, lacquered, brushed and oiled, smoked and grey oak tones. Every floor is named after a Cheshire or South Manchester village and you can order up to five free samples to compare the tones in your own light.
Which rooms suit herringbone flooring?
Herringbone is at its best where the floor is on show: kitchens, hallways, dining rooms and open-plan ground floors and increasingly bedrooms for a softer look. Like all engineered wood it is not suitable for bathrooms or wet rooms.
How is GF Herringbone cheaper than brand-name herringbone?
Because it is our own label. We work directly with the European mills, control the specification and sell without the brand and retailer margin that sits on top of the big-name ranges. The oak grade, wear layer and finish are directly comparable to floors that cost significantly more elsewhere.
