Frequently Asked Questions

Will rolling chairs damage my office LVT floor?

Not if the floor is specified correctly. Rolling chair castors are the biggest cause of office-floor wear, so we recommend a 0.7mm wear layer as a minimum and 1.0mm (Amtico Signature) where every desk has a chair on castors. Soft-wheel castors or chair mats add further protection at the busiest desk positions.

What wear layer do I need for an office?

Never below 0.7mm. A 0.7mm wear layer (Karndean Art Select or Invictus Ultimus) suits general professional offices and 1.0mm (Amtico Signature) is the spec for open-plan offices with rolling chairs at every desk, which is also the point that carries full commercial warranties. Domestic 0.55mm and 0.3mm floors are not intended for office use.

How does LVT compare to carpet for an office?

LVT is more hard-wearing and far easier to keep clean than carpet, does not trap dust or stain from spilled coffee and is repairable a tile at a time rather than needing a full re-lay. Carpet still has an acoustic edge, which is why we often specify a contract acoustic underlayment beneath office LVT to close that gap.

Is LVT flooring noisy in a quiet office environment?

On its own a hard floor transmits more footstep and castor noise than carpet, but a thin contract-grade acoustic underlayment between the subfloor and the LVT adds a few decibels of impact-sound damping without affecting the flat finish. We specify this on any office fit-out over a timber joist, suspended slab or raised-access subfloor.

Can I use click LVT in an office?

No, we specify glue-down only for offices. A floating click floor's perimeter expansion gap, floating raft and click joints all introduce failure points that heavy office traffic and rolling chairs will find quickly. The exception is loose-lay (Amtico Access) over raised-access decks where the floor must be liftable for cabling.
