Quick-Step Capture Laminate: A Guide to the Design-Led Range
Reviewed by our team, led by Adam Williams, Managing Director
Quick-Step Capture is the range for people who want their laminate to have character. Where most laminate copies a clean, everyday oak, Capture leans into texture and finish: painted boards, waxed and patinated oak, brushed grain, a cracked oak and two darker species in walnut and merbau. This guide explains how Capture is built, walks through all 18 designs in our range and helps you decide whether it suits your room. It also covers when our own GF Click SPC is the better buy.

Key Takeaways
How Capture Is Built
The 9mm board sits between the 8mm Classic and Impressive boards and the 12mm Impressive Ultra in thickness. The planks are slightly wider than standard, which gives the textured finishes room to show. Bevelled edges outline every plank. The HydroSeal treatment protects the surface and joints against everyday splashes. The Scratch Guard layer helps the floor cope with furniture, children and pets. For the wider family of ranges, see our Quick-Step laminate ranges explained.

The Capture Designs
Painted oak
Three boards with a soft, opaque colour over the grain: Painted Oak White, Painted Oak Black and Painted Oak Rose. They are the boldest floors in the range and suit cottages, bedrooms and creative interiors.
Waxed and patina oak
These recreate oak that has aged and mellowed. Waxed Oak Brown has the low sheen of a hand-waxed floor. The patina trio of Soft Patina Oak, Patina Oak Brown and Patina Oak Grey gives a lived-in look that works well in period homes.
Brushed oak
The largest group has an open, wire-brushed grain you can feel: Warm Natural, Natural, Beige, Grey and Brown. These are the easiest Capture floors to live with, because the texture disguises crumbs and light scratches.
Varnished, white and cracked oak
Natural Varnished Oak and Beige Varnished Oak give a smoother, more classic finish. White Premium Oak is the palest design in the range. Cracked Oak Natural shows the splits and checks of old timber.
Walnut and merbau
For a darker, richer floor, Chic Walnut and Merbau bring species you rarely see in laminate. Both suit larger rooms with plenty of light.
You can see every design together on our Quick-Step Capture range page.
Where Capture Works Best
Capture or GF Click SPC?
If you love the idea of a click floor but the room could get properly wet, look at our own GF Click SPC. It clicks together in the same way, has a built-in underlay and a stone-polymer core that will not swell if water gets in. It carries a 0.5mm wear layer and comes in plank and herringbone. For a soft grey similar in mood to the patina and brushed grey boards, try Kingham Oak. For a pale whitewashed look, try Dormy Oak. GF samples are free and every design is priced online.
If what draws you to Capture is the feel of real brushed and aged timber, our GF engineered wood is the genuine article for living rooms and bedrooms. Our LVT vs laminate comparison sets out the wider trade-offs.
Fitting Capture
Capture floats over an underlay rather than being glued down. Lay it over a flat, dry subfloor and leave the expansion gap Quick-Step specifies at every wall and fixed object. Do not trap it under kitchen units or a heavy island. Around a bath or shower, seal the perimeter with a flexible sealant to keep water out of the edges. We sell Quick-Step laminate supply-only, so if you would rather not fit it yourself, use a local fitter of your choice.

Start Floor FinderFrequently Asked Questions
How thick is Quick-Step Capture?
Capture is a 9mm laminate. That is thicker than the 8mm Classic and Impressive boards but thinner than the 12mm Impressive Ultra.
Is Quick-Step Capture waterproof?
The HydroSeal surface protects it against everyday spills and moisture. It is still a laminate with a wood-fibre core, so standing water should be wiped up quickly. For wet rooms and family bathrooms, GF Click SPC is the more forgiving choice.
Can Capture go over underfloor heating?
Yes. Capture is compatible with underfloor heating when it is fitted with a suitable underlay and the heating is run to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
How many designs are in the Capture range?
We list 18 Capture designs, covering painted, waxed, patina, brushed, varnished and cracked oak finishes, plus walnut and merbau.
What warranty does Capture have?
Capture carries a lifetime residential warranty when it is fitted and maintained to Quick-Step’s guidelines.
Is Capture better than Impressive?
They do different jobs. Impressive is about realistic everyday oak. Capture is about texture and finish. Its painted, aged and brushed effects are not part of the Impressive range.
