- Four colours run consistently across all three formats: Smoked Oak, Seashell, Misty Grey, Thermo Oak. Pick a colour once and specify it as plank, herringbone or chevron depending on the room.
- Pricing: Plank and herringbone £89.99/m2, Chevron £129.99-£149.99/m2 (Smoked Oak Chevron at £149.99, other three chevrons at £129.99). Inc VAT, free UK mainland delivery.
- All Tundra formats are fully bonded install only. UFH-compatible to 27 degrees C surface max. V4 35-year domestic guarantee across the collection. UK-made in Surrey.
V4 Tundra is V4’s format-rich premium collection – the only V4 range that offers the same wood in plank, herringbone and chevron formats on a birch ply core construction built for dimensional stability. Twelve products across three laying formats and four colours, backed by a 4mm real oak veneer top layer that’s deeper than any other V4 collection Grosvenor stocks. This guide covers the format breakdown, per-product pricing, the construction advantages and where Tundra fits against V4’s other collections.

What Is V4 Tundra?
Tundra is the V4 collection built around three ideas working together: format variety, deeper veneer and a birch ply core construction. Where V4 Alpine offers plank only in traditional finishes, V4 Deco offers matched plank + herringbone at 3mm veneer and V4 Driftwood offers extra-long plank at 2.5mm veneer, Tundra spans three formats (plank, herringbone, chevron) at a 4mm veneer on a birch ply engineered core that V4 markets as its most UFH-friendly product.
The four Tundra colours – Smoked Oak, Seashell, Misty Grey and Thermo Oak – run consistently across all three formats. That gives Tundra a design system similar to V4 Deco’s matched plank + herringbone concept but extended to include the chevron format as well. Specify one colour, pick your format per room and the wood reads as one continuous specification throughout the house even when the laying pattern changes at the room threshold.
Tundra is the V4 collection to specify when: (a) you want the option of chevron layout, (b) UFH performance matters, (c) the extra 4mm veneer depth for long-term refinishing capacity is important, or (d) you want maximum format flexibility across different rooms within a matched wood specification.

All 12 Tundra Designs
Tundra Plank – £89.99/m2 (4 designs, TK SKU prefix)
- Smoked Oak Plank (TK103) – Brushed, core-fumed and UV-oiled European oak. The deeper warm tone in the plank range. 190mm wide long plank.
- Seashell Plank (TK104) – Pale warm-toned oak with subtle character. Contemporary neutral read.
- Misty Grey Plank (TK105) – Cool grey oak with muted weathered character. Modern living-room and open-plan choice.
- Thermo Oak Plank (TK106) – Warm amber-brown oak with thermo-treated depth. The design-forward plank tone.
Tundra Herringbone – £89.99/m2 (4 designs, TH SKU prefix)
The same four colours as the plank range in matched herringbone format:
- Smoked Oak Herringbone (TH108) – matches TK103 plank in colour and finish
- Seashell Herringbone (TH109) – matches TK104 plank
- Misty Grey Herringbone (TH110) – matches TK105 plank
- Thermo Oak Herringbone (TH111) – matches TK106 plank
Herringbone blocks are 70mm x 490mm, laid at 90 degrees to each other to form the classic herringbone parquet pattern. Individual blocks are noticeably smaller than V4 Deco’s 90mm x 400mm herringbone – Tundra’s slightly narrower and longer block reads as a slightly finer pattern in the room.
Tundra Chevron – £129.99 to £149.99/m2 (4 designs, CV SKU prefix)
The same four colours in chevron format – the 45-degree cut angle that reads as a distinct V-pattern rather than the interlocked square of herringbone:
- Smoked Oak Chevron (CV103) – £149.99/m2. The top-tier Tundra specification. Deep smoked and UV-oiled oak.
- Seashell Chevron (CV104) – £129.99/m2
- Misty Grey Chevron (CV105) – £129.99/m2
- Thermo Oak Chevron (CV106) – £129.99/m2
Chevron blocks are 90mm x 610mm, cut at a 45-degree angle on each end so they lock together into the characteristic V-pattern. Chevron carries the price premium over herringbone because the 45-degree cutting angle, tighter alignment tolerances and increased material waste all add manufacturing cost. It also reads as more design-forward – chevron is the more contemporary and design-led of the two pattern layouts.
The Birch Ply Core: What Sets Tundra Apart
Every Tundra product is built on a birch ply engineered core rather than the standard multi-layer softwood or hardwood core V4 uses in Alpine, Deco and Driftwood. Birch ply construction delivers three practical advantages worth understanding when you specify Tundra:
Better dimensional stability. Birch ply is denser and more consistent than typical softwood engineered cores. That means less expansion and contraction across changes in room temperature and humidity – the technical failure mode most likely to cause gapping or cupping in engineered wood over time. For centrally-heated homes with variable seasonal humidity, birch ply cores hold their form better than standard multi-layer cores.
Best UFH performance in the V4 range. V4 markets Tundra as its most UFH-friendly product for the same dimensional-stability reason – the birch ply core handles the thermal cycling of underfloor heating with less risk of gapping over the floor’s lifetime. For projects with underfloor heating throughout the ground floor or in kitchen-diners, Tundra is V4’s recommended specification. See our engineered wood + UFH guide for the full UFH commissioning protocol.
Deeper 4mm veneer supported by a stronger core. The 4mm oak veneer that sits on top of every Tundra board reads as more substantial underfoot and gives the floor a longer refinishing life. V4’s decision to specify the deeper veneer specifically on Tundra reflects the collection’s positioning at the premium end of the V4 range – buyers of Tundra are typically specifying for long-term ownership and a floor that will outlast fashion cycles.
The Format Choice: Plank, Herringbone or Chevron?
Three format decisions that come up when specifying Tundra:
Plank is the most flexible format. Straight boards in a long-plank layout, easier to specify across whole-home installations, lowest fitting cost and best for open-plan living-dining-kitchens where a herringbone or chevron pattern would look busy against the room scale. Choose plank for whole-home installations, larger open rooms and any project where budget matters.
Herringbone is the classic pattern layout – blocks laid at 90 degrees to form the traditional parquet look. Reads as more designed and more premium than plank at the same price point (£89.99/m2 for both formats). Best in hallways, entrances, dining rooms and any room where the floor should read as a design element. Fitting cost carries a premium over plank because of tighter setting-out and more material waste. For herringbone context across the V4 range see our V4 herringbone flooring hub.
Chevron is the contemporary pattern – blocks cut at 45 degrees at each end so they lock into a V-shape rather than herringbone’s interlocked squares. Reads as more design-forward and modern than herringbone. Carries the price premium (£129.99-£149.99/m2) because of the 45-degree cutting complexity. Best in feature rooms, entrance halls where the floor is a statement and interiors that lean contemporary rather than traditional. For pattern layout context see our engineered wood parquet guide.
Mixing formats. Because Tundra’s four colours run across all three formats at matched veneer thickness (4mm on all), you can specify Tundra plank in the main rooms and Tundra chevron or herringbone in the entrance hall or feature room and the two formats will read as one continuous wood specification with a format change at the threshold. This is a specification move that V4 Deco offers with plank + herringbone, but only Tundra extends it to include chevron.
Installation, UFH and Warranty
Installation. All Tundra formats install fully bonded to a prepared subfloor with V4-approved adhesive. Tundra does not offer a floating installation method – the pattern formats (herringbone and chevron) need adhesive to hold tolerances over the floor’s lifetime and V4 specifies bonded across the plank format too so the whole collection can be installed consistently. The birch ply core also transfers heat most efficiently when fully bonded to the subfloor over UFH.
Bonded installation requires a flat, dry, well-prepared subfloor. Marginal subfloors often need self-levelling compound before fitting – typical cost £5-10/m2 for straightforward levelling. This is a non-negotiable step for any bonded engineered wood installation and particularly important for pattern layouts where a marginal subfloor causes visible issues with block alignment.
UFH. Tundra is V4’s most UFH-friendly collection thanks to the birch ply core. Standard engineered wood UFH conditions apply – surface temperature capped at 27 degrees C, gradual ramp-up protocol after fitting, appropriate adhesive for UFH systems. Both wet and electric UFH are accepted. See our engineered wood + underfloor heating guide for the full commissioning protocol.
Warranty. All Tundra products carry V4’s 35-year domestic guarantee subject to correct installation, use and maintenance. Grosvenor Flooring’s status as a V4 Gold Account approved retailer (V4’s premium retail tier) validates the manufacturer warranty on every Tundra floor supplied through us.

Actual pricing depends on subfloor condition, room complexity and adhesive requirements. See our engineered wood installation cost guide for the full pricing framework and the V4 flooring prices guide for supply pricing across every V4 collection.
Tundra vs Other V4 Collections
Tundra vs V4 Alpine (£65.63-£79.99/m2). Alpine is V4’s rustic-oak entry collection with 3-5mm veneers and plank format only. Tundra is the premium format-rich collection with a 4mm veneer across all three formats on a birch ply core. Choose Alpine for traditional rustic oak character at accessible pricing; choose Tundra for pattern layouts (herringbone or chevron), best UFH performance in the V4 range and deeper long-term refinishing capacity. See our V4 Alpine collection guide.
Tundra vs V4 Deco (£89.99/m2). Deco and Tundra plank / herringbone are priced identically at £89.99/m2. Deco offers 19 designs (more colour choice) at 3mm veneer with matched plank + herringbone. Tundra offers 4 colours (less design choice) at 4mm veneer on a birch ply core with plank + herringbone + chevron. If you need broader colour choice and matched two-format specification, Deco. If you need chevron format, deeper veneer, birch ply core UFH performance or a specific Tundra colour, Tundra. See our V4 Deco collection guide.
Tundra vs V4 Driftwood (£69.68-£93.10/m2). Driftwood is V4’s extra-long plank collection at 2200mm board length with 2.5mm veneer. Tundra is the format-rich collection at 4mm veneer. Driftwood wins on board length and coastal aesthetic; Tundra wins on veneer depth, pattern format options and UFH performance. See our V4 Driftwood collection guide.
Tundra vs Peer Brands
Tundra vs Kährs premium herringbone / plank ranges. Kährs Piazza and Kährs Small Herringbone collections deliver premium engineered oak in herringbone format at similar pricing to Tundra Herringbone. Kährs’ constructions run at 11-15mm total thickness with 3.5mm veneer – shallower veneer than Tundra’s 4mm. Tundra competes on veneer depth and UK manufacturing; Kährs competes on brand authority and broader design library. Detail in our Kährs flooring review.
Tundra vs Ted Todd design-led ranges. Ted Todd’s chevron and herringbone lines are typically priced above V4 Tundra and available only through Ted Todd’s approved retailers. If you have been to Ted Todd’s Warrington Design Centre and want to compare Tundra as a UK-made alternative with a similar veneer depth at lower pricing, see our Ted Todd Warrington alternative guide.
Tundra vs GF own-brand engineered wood. Grosvenor’s own engineered wood range sits below Tundra on pricing and offers a cost alternative for buyers who want a similar look at lower spend. Direct cross-shop in our V4 vs GF engineered wood guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is V4 Tundra worth the extra money over V4 Alpine or Deco?
Depends on the project. Tundra’s deeper 4mm veneer and birch ply core represent genuine premium construction over Alpine’s 3-5mm veneer standard cores and Deco’s 3mm veneer standard cores. If you’re specifying for a long-term forever-home installation with UFH or you need chevron format, Tundra earns the premium. If your project is a straight plank installation without UFH complexity, Alpine or Deco deliver 90% of the aesthetic at 70-80% of the cost. Tundra is the specification for premium projects; Alpine and Deco are the specifications for value-conscious projects.
Can I mix Tundra plank and Tundra chevron in the same house?
Yes – and Tundra is specifically designed for this. Because the four Tundra colours run across all three formats (plank, herringbone, chevron) at matched veneer thickness, you can specify Smoked Oak Plank in the main rooms and Smoked Oak Chevron in the entrance hall (or vice versa) and the two floors read as one continuous wood specification with a format change at the threshold. This is one of Tundra’s key positioning advantages against V4 Deco (which offers matched plank + herringbone but not chevron) and V4 Alpine (which is plank only).
Why does Tundra Chevron cost more than Tundra Herringbone?
The 45-degree cutting angle on chevron requires tighter production tolerances than the 90-degree herringbone cuts and the manufacturing process produces more material waste per finished m2. Chevron also requires more precise setting-out during installation. Both factors push the price to £129.99/m2 for the coloured chevrons (Seashell, Misty Grey, Thermo Oak) and £149.99/m2 for Smoked Oak Chevron. If chevron is the design brief, the premium reflects real production and fitting cost.
Why is Tundra bonded install only? Can I float it?
V4 specifies fully bonded across all three Tundra formats because the pattern layouts (herringbone and chevron) need adhesive to hold tolerances over the floor’s lifetime and the birch ply core delivers best UFH heat transfer when fully bonded to the subfloor. Floating installation is not offered on Tundra. For floating engineered wood installations at V4 pricing, V4 Driftwood’s 5G Click glue-free system is the better specification.
Is Tundra suitable for kitchens and hallways?
Yes. All Tundra formats perform well in kitchens and hallways when engineered wood conditions are respected – spills wiped promptly, felt pads under furniture, appropriate entrance mats and no persistent standing water. The birch ply core is particularly well-suited to kitchen installations where UFH is often specified. Tundra is not suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms or conservatories with heavy temperature swings.
What’s the difference between herringbone and chevron?
Herringbone blocks are rectangular (typically 70mm x 490mm on Tundra) laid at 90 degrees to each other to form the classic interlocked-square parquet pattern. Chevron blocks are also rectangular (90mm x 610mm on Tundra) but cut at a 45-degree angle at each end so they lock together into a distinct V-shape rather than herringbone’s interlocked squares. Chevron reads as more contemporary and design-forward; herringbone reads as more traditional and classic. Both are legitimate pattern choices – the decision is aesthetic. See our engineered wood parquet guide for a full comparison.
Can I get Tundra samples before I buy?
Yes. Free samples of every Tundra design across all three formats are available to order through the V4 Tundra category page – up to 5 free samples per order. Because Tundra colours read differently across the plank, herringbone and chevron formats, we recommend ordering samples of both plank and your chosen pattern in the shortlisted colour so you can compare the format read at home.
