V4 is one of the strongest British brands for pattern flooring. Its herringbone and chevron sit across three collections. Most of them come with a plank in the same colour, so you can lay herringbone in a hallway and plank in the room next door and have the two match. This guide walks through each V4 pattern option, how they differ and how to choose.

Deco Herringbone: the widest colour choice

V4 Deco is V4’s design-led collection. Its herringbone is the pick if colour matters most. There are ten herringbone designs on a 14mm multi-layer board with a 3mm top, including Black Walnut (ZB205), the only walnut in the V4 collections we supply. Most Deco herringbone designs have a Deco plank in the same finish. Deco plank and herringbone share one flat price, so you choose on looks alone. Read the V4 Deco collection guide for every design.

Tundra Herringbone: deeper oak on birch ply

V4 Tundra trades colour choice for construction. Its four herringbone designs (Smoked Oak, Seashell, Misty Grey and Thermo Oak) use a 4mm oak top on an 11mm birch ply board. Birch ply is very stable, which makes Tundra a good choice over underfloor heating. The slimmer board also helps where floor height is tight. The 70 x 490mm block is narrower and longer than Deco’s, giving a more elegant, finer pattern. Tundra herringbone costs the same as Deco herringbone.

Tundra Chevron: the statement floor

If you want a chevron rather than a herringbone, Tundra is the V4 collection to look at. The same four colours come as a 45-degree chevron: Smoked Oak (CV103), Seashell (CV104), Misty Grey (CV105) and Thermo Oak (CV106). Chevron costs more than herringbone because the angled cuts waste more timber and the floor takes longer to set out and lay. Smoked Oak is the most expensive of the four.

Urban Nature Herringbone: big blocks, rustic surface

Urban Nature is V4’s newest collection. Its herringbone uses large 125 x 600mm blocks in 15mm oak with a 4mm top, hand-scraped, distressed and UV-oiled, in four colours: Sandstone, Amberwood, Granite Smoke and Shadow Grey. Each has a matching 220mm wide plank. It suits larger rooms and characterful, rustic schemes where a small-block herringbone might look busy.

Herringbone or chevron?

Herringbone is the classic choice: the blocks meet at right angles and the floor reads as traditional, warm and timeless. Chevron is sharper and more contemporary: the blocks are cut at an angle so they meet in a clean point, forming continuous arrows across the room. If you are unsure, herringbone is the safer long-term choice and costs less. Chevron makes the bigger statement.

Fitting V4 herringbone and chevron

All V4 pattern floors are glued down to a flat, dry, well-prepared subfloor. Allow extra material for the pattern (around 10 to 15% for herringbone, more for chevron), which our quote works out from your room sizes. Pattern floors take longer to lay than plank because each block is set out from a centre line and the edges are cut individually. We fit V4 across Altrincham, Manchester and Cheshire using a regular team of fitters we know and trust. We quote the fitting per project.
