Almost every 3-layer parquet you can buy today traces its DNA back to that patent. This review pulls apart what Kahrs actually offers a UK buyer in 2026, where the range sits on price and quality, which collections we hold in our Altrincham Wood Room and how Kahrs compares against the other premium engineered wood brands we supply.

The 2026 UK catalogue runs to 217 products across 36 named collections. That is substantially broader than most premium competitors sell in the UK. For context, V4 has 63 products across six collections on our site. Ted Todd’s range across engineered, solid, antique and reclaimed lines is also broad, but it is split across several categories rather than a single engineered wood offer.
Species split across the 217 Kahrs UK products is oak-dominant at 200 products. Ash accounts for 9 products, walnut for 3, hard maple for 2 with single-product presences in beech, cherry and European maple. If you want anything other than oak from Kahrs, you are looking at a shortlist of curated ash lines or the occasional walnut design piece.
Kahrs Construction: Three Distinct Approaches
Kahrs runs three distinct construction types across the range. Understanding which one you are buying matters more than the collection name because it drives long-term stability, resandable life and whether the floor sits inside our recommended UFH envelope.
3-layer parquet (162 products, 15mm dominant). This is the classical Kahrs construction and the format their 1941 patent introduced. A hardwood oak top layer sits on a cross-directional softwood core with a stabilising veneer on the underside. Woodloc 5S or 5G joints allow floating or glue-down installation. This is the construction on Smaland, European Naturals, Flora and most of the mid-tier and premium collections. It is the most dimensionally stable Kahrs build.
2-layer parquet (27 products, 11mm typical). Reserved for Kahrs’ design-led collections including Piazza and Large Herringbone. The oak top layer is bonded directly to a birch plywood core with no third stabilising layer. Joint is tongue and groove, installation is glue-down only. The trade-off is thinner overall build (11mm vs 15mm on the 3-layer collections) which suits refurb work where floor height is tight, in return for a genuinely premium visual finish with 4-sided micro-bevelling and a deep 3.5mm oak wear layer.
Veneer construction (26 products, Kahrs Life sub-brand). Life Authentic Plank and Life Authentic Herringbone use a thinner, harder oak veneer surface over a stability-optimised engineered core. Joint is Unifit X. Installation floating or glue-down. This is the format designed for renovation projects where budget matters more than resandable life and the numbers back it up: entry Life Authentic Plank pricing is roughly half what an equivalent Piazza board costs. It is still real oak on top, just a thinner top layer.

The Woodloc Joint
Kahrs invented the world’s first glue-less locking joint for wood flooring in 2000. The system has two current variants:
The point of Woodloc for the end customer is straightforward: on any Kahrs floor with a Woodloc joint you have both floating and glue-down as options. That flexibility is worth having if your subfloor is uncertain, if you are laying over an existing screed you want to avoid gluing to, or if UFH commissioning constraints matter (see below).
Kahrs Collections on Display at Grosvenor Flooring
Kahrs is on display in our Altrincham Wood Room. There are 23 boards from the collections below. These are the ones we recommend most often because you can stand on the actual board in daylight before you choose. Kahrs samples are for viewing in the showroom; they are not posted out.
Piazza Collection – 9 products. 13 boards from the Piazza range are on display, including Large Herringbone and Studio designs. Kahrs’ design-led 2-layer parquet range: 11mm total build, 3.5mm oak wear layer, 4-sided micro-bevel and a brushed, oiled finish. Grades split between calm AB and expressive CD. Piazza is designed to be laid in the same room as Kahrs’ Large Herringbone, using Piazza as a frame board for the herringbone pattern.
Life Authentic Herringbone Collection – 4 colours, all on display. Kahrs’ entry into pattern-format flooring on the Kahrs Life veneer construction: Chamomille, Mint, Sage and Ginseng. Unifit X joint, ultra matt lacquered oak veneer surface, floating or glue-down installation. It is the most affordable way into a Kahrs herringbone floor.
Smaland Collection – 9 products. Finnveden and Tveta are on display. 3-layer parquet, 1-strip 240mm wide plank. Each Smaland product named after a Swedish parish, hand-scraped surface with stains ranging from the transparent white on Klinta to the fully smoked coffee stain on Tveta. Woodloc 5S joint. 30-year warranty.
Da Capo Collection – 6 products. Indossati is on display. Rustic aesthetic 2-strip flooring, 15mm build, 195mm wide plank, oil-finished with heavy character. Da Capo is where Kahrs sits closest to Ted Todd’s antique and reclaimed positioning. Indossati is the board on display and the most heavily aged of the 6 products.
Ingresso Collection – 7 products. Grano Oiled, Calce and Terrano are on display. 14mm 3-layer parquet, 190mm wide plank, 2.5mm oak wear layer, brushed and micro-bevelled. Fold Down joint, floating or glue-down installation. Rustic Dynamic grading similar to Da Capo but with a slightly cleaner face. Warranty is 20 years, reflecting the collection’s position as Kahrs’ accessible 3-layer range.
Kahrs Range Beyond What We Sample
Kahrs’ full 36-collection UK offer runs far beyond the ranges on display. The others span everything from the flagship Lux Collection (12 products, some of Kahrs’ most expensive parquet) through Beyond Retro (12 products, playful colour), European Naturals (11 wide-plank oak products) and Flora (11 one-strip planks named after wildflowers), to Sand, Capital, Tres 3-strip and specialist collections like Boardwalk, Zen and Fauna.

Kahrs runs a wider price ladder than most premium engineered wood brands. Entry Life Authentic Plank comes in below the price of some mid-tier oak floors, while flagship Piazza AB Creme White sits at the top end of what UK buyers pay for premium engineered oak short of bespoke or antique product. Kahrs and Underfloor Heating
Kahrs lists its floors as suitable for underfloor heating when they are installed to its guidelines. In practice that means a 27C surface temperature ceiling, a dry, stable subfloor before installation and the proper acclimatisation period. Check the product details for the exact board you choose.
Kahrs’ 3-layer parquet construction on the majority of the range gives the best dimensional stability under UFH thermal cycling of any engineered wood construction we sell. If you are specifying whole-house UFH beneath oak, Smaland, Ingresso and the Kahrs collections on the 3-layer build are our first-choice recommendation. Piazza and Large Herringbone are UFH-compatible but the 2-layer birch plywood core is slightly less forgiving of poorly-commissioned UFH systems than 3-layer parquet. Kahrs vs the Other Premium Engineered Wood Brands
The cleanest way to place Kahrs in the premium UK engineered wood market is against the three other premium brands we supply.
Where Kahrs wins on the cross-shop:
- Range breadth: 36 collections is a significantly deeper catalogue than V4 or Ted Todd or Woodpecker deliver in the UK. If your project needs an unusual colour or format Kahrs is more likely to have it in current catalogue.
- Woodloc joint quality: Kahrs’ locking system is the market benchmark. V4 and Woodpecker use their own click systems that work well but Kahrs invented the category.
- Established heritage: founded in 1857 and granted the engineered parquet patent in 1941. Kahrs is a familiar name to architects and interior designers who want a recognised brand on the client schedule.

What is the Kahrs warranty?
Warranty varies by collection. Piazza, Large Herringbone and Smaland carry 30-year residential warranties and Ingresso has 20 years. Kahrs Life (the veneer range) has its own terms. Fitting to Kahrs’ installation guidelines is part of the warranty conditions, so check the terms for the collection you choose.
Is Kahrs made in Sweden?
Yes. Kahrs’ main production is at Nybro in southern Sweden. Some of the wider Kahrs group brands are produced at other European sites but the core Kahrs UK catalogue is Swedish-made.
Can Kahrs be installed over underfloor heating?
