Piazza AB vs Piazza CD: Understanding the Grades
Kahrs Piazza splits across two grade families. AB is the calm grading, CD is the expressive grading. The construction is identical, the visual character is what changes.
Piazza AB (Calm grading). Carefully selected oak with moderate colour variations and few knots. Sap wood and heartwood variation is muted. Knots are small and infrequent. AB is the specification for buyers who want the premium tactile finish of Piazza without the visual busyness that some rustic oak collections carry. Piazza CD (Dynamic grading). More expressive character with knots, sap variation and colour variations that read as full-character oak. Piazza and Kahrs Large Herringbone: The Design Pairing
Piazza is designed to be laid alongside Kahrs’ Large Herringbone collection. That is a deliberate design decision by Kahrs. The two collections share identical construction (2-layer parquet, 11mm build, 3.5mm oak wear layer), identical surface treatments and identical finish variants. The only structural difference is board size: Piazza is 180 x 1800mm plank, Large Herringbone is a smaller board sized for herringbone pattern.

Installation and Underfloor Heating
Piazza is glue-down only. There is no floating installation option because the tongue and groove joint on Piazza isn’t a floating-compatible locking system like Woodloc. Full-adhesive installation over an appropriately prepared subfloor is the only fitting method Kahrs will warrant on Piazza.
For underfloor heating, Piazza is compatible when installed inside Kahrs’ commissioning envelope: 27 degrees C surface temperature ceiling, subfloor RH below Kahrs’ published limit before installation and the standard acclimatisation period. Piazza’s birch plywood core delivers reasonable stability under thermal cycling, though not as forgiving as Kahrs’ 3-layer parquet collections (Smaland, Ingresso, European Naturals) which are our first-choice specification for whole-floor UFH. For high-heat-load rooms or under-tile-heat specifications adjacent to Piazza, the 3-layer collections carry lower risk.
