Caring for Period Homes in Bowdon

Old houses bring old floors. Many Bowdon villas have original pine boards, uneven joists or quarry tiles hidden under carpet. Blake checks all of this on his visit and works out what preparation each room needs before anything is ordered. He trained and qualified as an accountant at Baker Tilly, so the quote itemises every step.

Only then does a regular team of fitters we know and trust start work. Our supply and fit service page explains how a project runs.

Flooring for Bowdon Homes

The Downs, The Firs and Green Walk: grand Victorian merchants’ houses with tall ceilings, where Versailles panels and wide oak planks look at home.
Around St Mary’s church: older cottages and townhouses, where a narrower board or a parquet pattern suits smaller rooms.
Bowdon Vale: terraced cottages, where hard-wearing LVT handles muddy boots from walks in Dunham Massey.
Converted apartments: flats in former villas, where acoustic underlay may be required under the lease.

Engineered Wood First

For many Bowdon customers the starting point is real wood. Our Wood Room displays our own GF engineered wood and the other brands we sell, in plank, herringbone, chevron and Versailles. Our guide to the best engineered wood for period properties is a good place to start.

Ted Todd is a name many Bowdon homeowners know. Our guide to buying Ted Todd in Altrincham shows how it compares with GF. So does looking for a Ted Todd alternative?. Fitting is covered on the engineered wood floor fitter page.

Amtico and Karndean for Bowdon

Where wood isn’t practical, such as kitchens, bathrooms and boot rooms, luxury vinyl takes over. We supply every Amtico collection: Signature, Spacia, Form, First, Click Smart and Access. Signature’s period-style patterns and feature stripping suit Victorian rooms well.

From Karndean we sell Art Select, Van Gogh, Van Gogh Rigid Core, Knight Tile, Knight Tile Rigid Core and Palio Essenza. See our Amtico floor fitter and Karndean floor fitter pages. Our Amtico vs Karndean guide compares the two.

Invictus, Project Floors, GF and Alva

Invictus offers four premium LVT ranges for less, set out on our Invictus floor fitter page. Project Floors is the durable choice for utility rooms. Our GF range matches the big names at a sharper price.

Textures and Elements add more plank and herringbone designs. Free samples are available on GF, Textures and Elements. Interested in Alva? Read where to buy Alva flooring in Altrincham. The LVT floor fitter page covers the fitting.

Can I See the Floors Before I Buy?

Flooring in Bowdon – Frequently Asked Questions

Can engineered wood go over old pine floorboards?

Often, yes. Loose boards are fixed and the floor levelled first. Blake checks the condition on his visit and prices any work.

Is engineered wood or LVT better for a Victorian villa?

Engineered oak suits the main rooms. LVT is usually better in kitchens, bathrooms and boot rooms where water is a risk.

Do you fit Versailles panels?

We do. Versailles panels look superb in Bowdon’s big reception rooms and we set them out from the centre so the pattern sits square to the room.

Where can I compare Ted Todd with GF?

In our Wood Room in Altrincham. Our Ted Todd guides explain the comparison in more detail.

How close is your showroom?

A few minutes’ drive from Bowdon, at 82 Stamford New Road. It is open 24/7.

Which samples are free?

Our own GF floors plus Textures and Elements. For Amtico, Karndean and the wood brands, come and see the full boards.

Who carries out the home visit?

Blake Williams, our Operations Director.

Do you take on single rooms?

Yes. There is no minimum job size.
