Parador and Ted Todd sit near each other on a premium shortlist but feel quite different once you see them. Parador is a German brand with a neat, series-based range and a lot of wide planks. Ted Todd is a British brand with a design-led catalogue, very thick oak on its top boards and reclaimed timber for period projects. Here is how to decide between them.

The design difference

Parador organises its engineered wood into nine series, from Basic 11-5 and the Classic boards to the Trendtime ranges and the newer Harmonia and Maradune collections. The look is contemporary: wide planks, lively oak grading and names drawn from wine grapes and Italian places. Around 60 of its roughly 104 engineered products are wide plank.

Ted Todd’s catalogue is built around collections with a stronger sense of story: aged and character oak, bevel-free boards for a seamless floor, textured surfaces and a specialist range of less common species. Many of its premium boards use a 2-layer build with a thick oak top on birch plywood. It also sells solid and reclaimed floors.

Matching patterns across rooms. Parador’s Trendtime 3 herringbone is made in engineered wood, vinyl and laminate, so a hallway, kitchen and bathroom can share one look in the right material for each room.

Seeing it before you buy. Classic 3025, Classic 3060, Trendtime 3 herringbone, Trendtime 4 and a Parador chevron are all in our Wood Room, open 24/7.

A cleaner modern look. If you want a broad, light oak plank for an open-plan space, Parador’s Classic 3060 and Trendtime 4 boards do it well.

Price. Parador’s entry and mid series usually come in below Ted Todd’s premium collections.

Where Ted Todd comes out ahead

Depth of oak. A 6mm oak top can be sanded and refinished many more times than Parador’s 2.5mm to 3.6mm layers.

Old timber. For a listed building or a restoration where the floor should look and feel genuinely old, Ted Todd’s reclaimed and antique boards have no match in Parador’s range.

Specialist finishes and species. Ted Todd covers textured surfaces, bevel-free planks and less common woods.
