V4 and Ted Todd are both British wood flooring brands, both sold through specialist retailers and both popular with designers. The difference is in what each does best. V4 offers tidy collections where the same colours run across plank, herringbone and chevron. Ted Todd goes further at the top end: very thick oak, reclaimed boards and specialist finishes. How the two ranges are built

V4’s collections each have a clear job. Alpine is the straightforward oak plank. Deco pairs plank with a matching herringbone. Tundra has a deeper oak top on a birch ply core in herringbone and chevron. Driftwood uses a click joint for quick floating installs. Heritage and Urban Nature cover character and wide-plank looks: Urban Nature’s planks are 220mm wide and 2.2m long, hand-scraped and UV oiled.

Ted Todd’s premium boards are mostly 2-layer: a thick oak top bonded to birch plywood, reaching around 6mm of oak on the flagship ranges. Its catalogue also includes bevel-free boards for a seamless floor, textured and aged surfaces, specialist species and reclaimed timber.

Choose V4 if

You want plank in one room and the same colour in herringbone or chevron in the next. Deco and Tundra are designed for exactly that.

You want a long guarantee: 35 years domestic.

You want a wide, hand-scraped plank without the top-tier price. Urban Nature is a good fit.

You are fitting a floating floor yourself and want a click joint. Driftwood suits that.

Choose Ted Todd if

You want as much sandable oak as possible for a floor that will last generations.

The project calls for reclaimed or genuinely aged timber.

You want a bevel-free board, a strongly textured surface or a species other than oak.
