Amtico Click Smart Guide – Grosvenor Flooring

Amtico Click Smart: The Complete UK Buyer’s Guide

Click Smart is the odd one out in the Amtico range – and in the best way. Every other Amtico residential collection is a glue-down tile; Click Smart is a rigid core click floor that floats over the subfloor with no adhesive at all. That single difference makes it the most renovation-friendly, DIY-capable and fastest-to-fit product Amtico makes. This guide explains what Click Smart is, how the rigid core construction works, where it fits against the glue-down ranges, and how to decide whether click or glue-down is right for your project.

Grosvenor Flooring is an Amtico Approved Retail Partner. We supply and fit Click Smart on renovation and retrofit projects, so this guide is written from a retailer’s perspective – what Click Smart genuinely does well, where a glue-down range would serve you better, and what to get right at installation.

What Is Amtico Click Smart?

Click Smart is a rigid core click LVT – a floating floor built on a Stone Plastic Composite (SPC) core, with a click-locking edge profile that connects the planks and tiles together rather than gluing them down. It is designed and manufactured to Amtico’s standards, with the same surface quality you expect from the brand.

The construction has four working parts: a realistic wood or stone printed design layer, a 0.55mm wear layer protected by Amtico’s PUR surface coating, a rigid SPC core that gives the plank its stability and strength, and an integrated acoustic underlay bonded to the base of every plank. That built-in underlay is a genuine convenience – it removes the need to buy and lay a separate underlay product, and it cushions the floor and reduces impact sound underfoot.

Click Smart carries a 20-year residential warranty and a 100% waterproof construction, which means it can go in any room of the house without restriction – including kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms.

How the Rigid Core Click System Works

The rigid SPC core is what makes Click Smart behave differently from traditional flexible LVT. Because the core is rigid rather than flexible, the floor is dimensionally stable – far less prone to the expansion and contraction that temperature changes can cause in thinner, flexible products. It also bridges minor subfloor imperfections better than a glue-down tile, which needs a very smooth, level substrate to look its best.

Installation is a floating system: the planks click together at the edges and the finished floor is not bonded to the subfloor. There is no adhesive to mix, apply or cure, no adhesive-compatibility risk, and far less subfloor preparation than a glue-down product demands. The floor can also be lifted and repositioned more easily than a bonded floor – a real advantage in rental properties or where the layout may change.

Click Smart is realistic enough to be installed by a competent DIYer, though professional installation gives the best result and keeps warranty compliance straightforward.

The Amtico Click Smart Design Range

Click Smart covers realistic wood and stone effects in both plank and tile formats, produced to Amtico’s visual standard. Surface embossing adds texture so the designs look convincing underfoot rather than flat and printed.

The design library is narrower than the glue-down ranges – Signature in particular has a far deeper catalogue – but Click Smart covers the mainstream wood and stone looks that most renovation projects need. If a specific glue-down design is central to your scheme, it is worth checking whether a close Click Smart equivalent exists before committing to the click format. Our Amtico designs, colours and patterns guide gives the wider view across the brand.

Amtico Click Smart Specification

Click Smart has a 0.55mm wear layer – the same as Amtico Spacia – which gives it a heavy-residential rating suitable for busy family homes. It carries a 20-year residential warranty, again matching Spacia, and a 100% waterproof construction throughout.

The practical headline is that Click Smart gives you Spacia-level durability and warranty, but in a floating click format with a built-in underlay. If you like the Spacia specification but need a floating floor rather than glue-down, Click Smart is the direct equivalent.

Click Smart vs Glue-Down Amtico: Which Do You Need?

The choice between Click Smart and a glue-down range is about project type and installation method, not quality. Both routes give you a genuine Amtico floor.

Choose Click Smart if: you are retrofitting over an existing floor you do not want to lift, you want a faster, less disruptive fit, you are working on an upper floor where a floating floor suits, you want DIY-friendly installation, or the floor may need to be lifted in the future. The built-in underlay also simplifies the specification by removing a separate product.

Choose glue-down Amtico if: you want the most seamless, solid result with no movement at the joints, you are starting from a stripped subfloor, you want borders or feature layouts, or you specifically want Form or Signature – neither of which comes in a click format. Glue-down is the preferred specification for premium and design-led projects.

Where Click Smart Fits in the Amtico Range

Amtico’s residential line-up is four glue-down ranges – First (0.3mm), Spacia (0.55mm), Form (0.7mm) and Signature (1.0mm) – plus Click Smart, the single click range.

Click Smart sits alongside Spacia on specification – same 0.55mm wear layer, same 20-year warranty – but answers a different question. Spacia is the glue-down all-rounder; Click Smart is the floating-floor answer for renovations and retrofits. They are best thought of as siblings rather than a step up or down from each other.

Installation: What to Know Before You Buy

Click Smart is more forgiving than glue-down Amtico, but it is not maintenance-free at the subfloor stage. The base still needs to be reasonably flat, clean and dry – the rigid core bridges minor imperfections but it will not hide a significantly uneven floor. Expansion gaps at the perimeter and correct threshold detailing matter, as they do with any floating floor.

Because Click Smart floats, there is no adhesive to get wrong, which removes one of the most common causes of warranty issues on glue-down products. Amtico’s warranties are conditional on correct installation, and an Amtico Approved Retail Partner gets the detailing right – even on a DIY-capable product like this, professional installation keeps warranty compliance simple.

Click Smart in Kitchens, Bathrooms and Wet Areas

Click Smart’s 100% waterproof construction is one of its strongest selling points. Unlike a glue-down tile, which is highly water-resistant but relies on adhesive and perimeter detailing at the edges, Click Smart’s construction is waterproof throughout – so kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and cloakrooms are all straightforward applications.

The 0.55mm wear layer handles the traffic these rooms see. As with any floor, fit felt pads under furniture and keep a mat in sink and appliance zones to catch repeated drips.

Amtico Click Smart and Underfloor Heating

Click Smart is compatible with most wet underfloor heating systems, subject to Amtico’s maximum surface temperature of 27°C. Electric underfloor heating compatibility should be confirmed against the specific system before installation. As a thicker, cored product Click Smart transfers heat slightly less efficiently than a thin glued tile, so factor that into the heating design. Our guide to Amtico flooring and underfloor heating covers the detail.

Warranty

Amtico provides a 20-year residential warranty on Click Smart when the floor is correctly installed and maintained. The warranty can be affected by exceeding the 27°C underfloor heating limit, installation over an unsuitable subfloor, or incorrect perimeter detailing. Register the installation with Amtico through your approved retailer at the point of fitting.

Is Amtico Click Smart Right for Your Project?

Click Smart is the right choice if you are renovating and want to avoid lifting the existing floor, you want a faster and less disruptive fit, you want a 100% waterproof floor for a kitchen or bathroom, you like the Spacia specification but need a floating format, or the floor may need to be lifted in the future. It is the Amtico range we recommend by default for retrofit and renovation work.

It is the wrong choice if you want the most seamless, solid glue-down result, you are planning borders or feature layouts, or you specifically want the heavier wear layers of Form or Signature – those are glue-down only. If glue-down suits your project, Spacia is the closest equivalent on specification.

Amtico Click Smart Care and Maintenance

Click Smart is a low-maintenance floor. Sweep or vacuum without a beater bar to lift loose grit, and damp-mop with a pH-neutral floor cleaner weekly or as needed. Avoid steam mops at high temperature, abrasive scouring pads, wax polishes and any cleaner not rated for LVT.

Fit felt pads under furniture and use sliders to move heavy items. Because Click Smart is a floating floor, avoid loading it with extremely heavy fixed furniture across an expansion gap. Our guide to cleaning Amtico flooring covers the full routine.

Amtico Click Smart in Real Projects

Three customer scenarios account for most of the Click Smart we supply and fit:

Retrofit over an existing floor: the most common Click Smart project is a renovation where the customer wants a genuine Amtico floor but does not want the disruption, cost and time of lifting the existing floor and prepping a bare subfloor. Click Smart floats over a sound existing surface, which keeps the job faster and less invasive – a strong fit for upper-floor rooms and occupied homes where a glue-down strip-out would be impractical.

Waterproof kitchen or bathroom renovation: Click Smart’s 100% waterproof construction makes it the Amtico range customers choose when a kitchen, bathroom or utility room is being refreshed and water resistance is the priority. The floating click format also means the floor can be worked around plumbing and appliance changes more easily than a fully bonded tile.

Rental property and quick-turnaround fits: Click Smart is specified for rental refurbishment where the floor needs to go down fast between tenancies, deliver an Amtico-quality finish, and potentially be lifted or replaced section by section in future. The Spacia-level 0.55mm wear layer means it still handles tenant traffic, while the floating format keeps installation time and disruption to a minimum.

Amtico Click Smart Frequently Asked Questions

Is Amtico Click Smart waterproof?

Yes – Click Smart has a 100% waterproof construction throughout, which makes it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and cloakrooms without restriction. This is one of the clearest advantages it has over glue-down Amtico, which is highly water-resistant but relies on adhesive and edge detailing rather than a waterproof core.

Can I install Amtico Click Smart myself?

Click Smart’s click-locking system is realistic for a competent DIYer to install, and the integrated underlay removes one step. That said, professional installation gives the best result, ensures expansion gaps and threshold details are correct, and keeps warranty compliance straightforward.

What is the difference between Amtico Click Smart and Amtico Spacia?

Both have a 0.55mm wear layer and a 20-year warranty. The difference is format: Spacia is a glue-down tile bonded to the subfloor; Click Smart is a rigid core click floor that floats with a built-in underlay. Choose Spacia for a seamless professional glue-down result; choose Click Smart for renovations, retrofits and floating-floor installs.

What wear layer does Amtico Click Smart have?

Click Smart has a 0.55mm wear layer protected by Amtico’s PUR surface coating – a heavy-residential rating suitable for busy family homes, and the same wear layer as Amtico Spacia.

Can Click Smart go over underfloor heating?

Click Smart is compatible with most wet underfloor heating systems subject to Amtico’s 27°C maximum surface temperature. Electric system compatibility should be confirmed with the specific manufacturer. As a cored product it transfers heat slightly less efficiently than a thin glued tile.

Does Click Smart need a separate underlay?

No – an acoustic underlay is bonded to the base of every Click Smart plank and tile. That removes the need to buy and lay a separate underlay product, simplifies the specification, and cushions the floor while reducing impact sound underfoot.
