Kahrs and Woodpecker both make premium engineered oak, but one is a Swedish manufacturer with a huge catalogue and the other is a British brand with a smaller, tightly organised range named after places around the UK. How the ranges compare

Kahrs covers almost every look: calm Nordic oak, smoked and hand-scraped boards, wide single-strip planks, three-strip boards and herringbone. Most of it is 3-layer parquet with the Woodloc click joint, so it can be floated or glued. The design-led Piazza range uses a 2-layer build with a 3.5mm oak top.

Woodpecker keeps things simpler. Stonehaven is the entry plank at 14mm with a 3mm top. Harlech, Dartmouth, Berkeley and Bourton are 15mm planks with a 4mm top in different widths and finishes; Bourton goes to 240mm wide. Highclere is a large-format herringbone, Goodrich a chevron and Orkney a parquet. Chepstow is the flagship at 21mm with a 6mm oak top.

A budget entry point. Kahrs Life gives you a real oak surface on a slim veneer floor for renovations where cost or floor height is tight.

Reasons to choose Woodpecker

Deep oak at the top end. Chepstow’s 6mm oak top is thicker than anything in Kahrs’ engineered range.

Chevron. Woodpecker Goodrich is a chevron; Kahrs does not offer an engineered wood chevron.

A simple, consistent spec. Most Woodpecker planks share the same 15mm/4mm build, so choosing is mostly about width and finish.

A long warranty. Woodpecker’s warranty on most ranges is a strong point for long-term family homes.
